You have probably noticed that I haven't been anywhere near as active on social media, or even on this blog. There is a pretty good reason for it. Well, I think it is a good reason. I have taken up gardening and the experience has been a huge trial and error for me so far. However, it is looking good.
Oh, and pardon all of the clover and grass. I try to keep it away from the plants, but the clover is insane this year.
Anyways, it has been taking up a lot of my extra time because I got a little over zealous and I give my plants a lot of love because Georgia has some crappy soil. If you can even call it soil. Plus it is already so hot during the day that without regular watering, everything dries up. I planted the week after Easter, with a bunch of help with my step-dad. I have cabbage, three different kinds of peppers, Romaine lettuce, Buttercrunch lettuce, green beans, cantaloupe, two kinds of squash, two kinds of cucumbers, three kinds of tomatoes, radishes, carrots, peas, marigolds, bee balm, and quite a few herbs.
Combine this with everything else, and I am extremely busy. An added bonus is that I am getting quite a workout. We don't have a water hose that stretches far enough, and I don't want an extension. Carrying 10 gallons of water is one heck of a workout.
I always helped my grandparents in their garden, but I never really understood the appeal. But being able to grow your food and see the progress your plants make is an amazing feeling. Plus you have direct control over what goes into your food. Something about is also very relaxing. It gives me some much needed quiet time and I get to be outside enjoying nature. This has also brought my family even closer together. It is something all of us have invested time and love in. Even my grandmother. She cannot do any of the physical work, but I do roll her out there in her wheelchair to show her the progress. She offers up her advice and tips that she has obtained after many years of growing various vegetables.
Eventually I am going to start a flower bed in the front of the house and pull up some of the plants that are starting to look rough.
This garden is something I am incredibly proud of and it is near and dear to my heart. Except for the bugs eating my cabbage and beans. They can go find someone else's plants to eat as a snack.
I have wanted to do this post for a few weeks, but I avoided it because it didn't relate to the overall theme of this blog. I have been seeing a ton of negativity and outright hate towards women who enjoy wearing makeup on a regular basis. I use it as a form of expression and view it as art, not to cover up. It is like people think that all we do is eat, sleep, and breathe beauty products 24/7. Like we are superficial clowns, basically. I obviously enjoy makeup a lot, and really the entire beauty industry. Yes, it is a passion of mine. But it isn't all of who I am, or rather all of who we are.
We are not afraid to get our hands dirty, chipped nails are not the end of the world, and we are far more intelligent than people give us credit for. If I had the money, I would probably stay in school because I love learning so much.
I guess that was a little bit of my motivation for this post. And there will be more like it on different non-beauty things that I love.
