My 2014 Midyear Stocktake // Reflections & Thoughts

By Makemeupmandy @mandywebb28

So where we are at now, is the second half of 2014. It is such a cliche to lament the quick passing of time but seriously, especially when you have kids and watch them grow so quickly, you just can’t help but get a little melancholic about it. {Ally announced yesterday she now finds it weird to kiss us on the lips. Why did this have to happen?}

One of my favourite blogs has got to be Tine’s blog. Hers was one of the first blogs I ever followed plus Tine is just so super helpful and has such a generous spirit; I emailed her a couple of times regarding blogging/work-related matters and she was always happy to help. When I saw Tine’s post on her Midyear Stocktake and her invitation for bloggers/non-bloggers to do their own version, I just thought it would be fun to have a go so here’s mine:

My 2014 Midyear Stocktake // Reflections & Thoughts

Cooking: Soups, stews, casseroles… perfect for winter.

Drinking: Lots of hot teas and milos. All the time. Somehow, I recently discovered that my stomach can’t take coffees anymore. {Some of you would be horrified on my behalf to hear that!}

Reading: For a literature student {I was one my entire academic life}, I read shockingly little. These days, I only have time for magazines. And even magazines are proving to be a time-consuming task where I take a whole month to read through at a rate of probably 2-3 pages per sitting… before some kid-related commotion requires my attention.

Wanting: To go on our holiday soon! Summer, beaches, family, friends, food, ‘honeymoon’ holiday to Japan… I’d like for time to fast forward until our holiday and then slow down through its duration, yes please. Talk about being too demanding.

Looking: At our fireplace. Fireplaces are amazing for winter; I can’t remember how we ever got through previous winters with no fireplace now that we have one.

Playing: Alphabet flash card games with Kasey. The whole ‘learning is fun’ thing. Not so fun for me but that’s as close to playing as I get.

Enjoying: Frankie magazine. What an awesome magazine, I really really enjoy it.

Waiting: For winter to be over!

Liking: The company of friends, sitting near the fireplace and chatting after a nice meal.

Loving: My electric blanket. Oh, what will I do without it. I know some people are iffy about electric blankets but there’s nothing like a nice, warm, toasty bed to hop into.

Needing: A proper sleep. 1am nights and 530am mornings, anyone? I’m getting to a point where my eyebags are beyond rescue. Yet there is such a thing as happy busy so… no complaints there!

Smelling: Soft whiffs of a burning Apple & Rhubarb candle

Feeling: Completely relieved that we are past the diaper stage with Kasey. No more diaper changes – ever. I nearly cried for joy the day she was fully trained {it actually took just two days!} and my husband kept wanting to high five me every time he thought about it and felt so happy {we are very cool like that}.

Admiring: My younger brother who just graduated from medical school over the weekend. I have no idea how he does it, all the studying and courage needed to be a doctor. Not to mention steady hands. Oh, and no weak knees or passing out at the sight of blood.

Buying: Eyeshadows. I went from an eyeshadow obsession to blushes to lipsticks… now it’s come full circle, and we’re back to eyeshadows, ladies. {Requests of MakeUp Geek, Too Faced Matte Palette and NARS eyeshadow duo reviews, anyone?}

Bookmarking: Lots of design websites. I have taken a liking to beautiful designs of late, whether it is interior design or graphic design. Ok, yes, I blame Pinterest for it!

Disliking: How my street sometimes gets so polluted with smoke from everyone’s fireplaces. I don’t hang my washing out in winter at all because of this. Some people ignore the rules to only burn hardwood and you see really bad smoke of even different colours coming out from their chimneys.

Snacking: Lots of fruits. Strawberries, bananas, grapes…

Coveting: A new laptop. Mine still works fine but it’s 2 years old… and I have been lusting after a Mac.

Helping: Ally learn her maths {poor thing hates maths, just like I did as a child} and Kasey learn some new words and nursery rhymes.

Hearing: The kids playing and laughing in the room. We can never seem to make Kasey laugh the way her older sister makes her laugh. It’s hilarious to watch! Not so when someone does a little wee in their pants from laughing too much. But laughter is always good.
