Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse

You know how people say that in your dreams, you live out a fantasy? (or something to that extent) Well, if that’s true, I can be the next Tim Burton – not in that dark twisted way, but in a “I’m so damned creative that my dreams don’t make any cow sense”. Try this one on for size – Singapore’s Miss Universe could ice skate while lifting a whale and she looked like Korea’s Kim Yuna. hahahaha.

Anyhoos, enough rubbish preamble – today’s review is on Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse.

I don’t think this is the usual look of the product (when you just open it) – it must have unfortunately sat on the heated part of the delivery vehicle.. or something. But anyhoos, it gives a better insight into the product texture.

And freaky Friday time with fugly sans-foundation face. Note that after I apply it evenly, it looks kinda ok, but there is a difference between le face and le neck.
Once again, very pleased with how I look today – le smexy eyeliner is the CLIO Kill Black and the lips are actually just a normal KRW5,000 tinted lip balm from Aritaum heh.

P.S. I did not use any powder to set the Mousse foundation.

Well, there’s no false advertising indeed – this is really a matte mousse.

• In fact, it’s so matte that as I apply it with my fingers, my face feels like a newborn – you know the baby skin with very minute hairs so it’s got a kinda velvety finish? But hey, as Madison Avenue said, Don’t Call Me Baby. lol.
• It’s really lightweight and my face didn’t have that icky heavy feel.
• During the launch of this Dream Matte Mousse, Larry used a brush to apply it, and it seemed so easy peasy. Ballocks man – it’s not easy at all. No wonder he’s a pro makeup artist. The bits kept flaking all over and dropping, and I just gave up – using my fingers was much easier and there was less product wastage.
• You can try applying using a sponge as well – it is easier than using the brush but somehow, I’m of this mentality that the sponge will absorb some product, thus resulting in product wastage. Plus, the coverage isn’t as good as compared to finger/hand application.
• In terms of coverage, it’s pretty decent – not superb coverage, but not so little as well. It took 2 coats to cover le dark eye circles. My blemishes are also sufficiently covered.
• As you guys should know, I’m pretty fair, and even Larry said that I mightttt have some tiny problem getting a suitable shade. This Nude Light shade 4 was the closest (think they didn’t have all the shades at the launch), and even then, you can see a discernible difference between my face and my neck. It’s not the super obvious colour differences though.If you compare it with previous photos, you’ll see that this Maybelline one gives me a slight yellow tinge.
• That said, this means that ladies of a darker skin tone will find it easy to get a match – it comes in 16 shades -mindblown-
• There is no glow or dewy finish. zilch, none (and this is where my 100 highlighters come into use muahahaha)
• Since it’s slightly on the drier side, ladies with dry skin may want to try the other liquid version of this instead (review coming soon!)
• The matte finish stayed on for at least 3 hours, after which my pore started leaking sebum and gah, out came the blotters again.
• It has relatively good staying power as well – 4-5 hours approx before I had to touch up.

Overall, quite an interesting product with decent coverage and a wide range of shades that’s worth a try, especially if you’re a fan of matte finishings.
