Summary:
These Maybelline Color Show nail polishes seem to have been everywhere recently. With an array of bright colours I decided to venture away from my usual golds and reds and go with a bolder and darker color. I was instantly taken with this burgundy. See what I thought.
I think the bottle is really sleek. It reminded me a little of the Nails Inc and B Complete nail polish pots, but I found the polish inside is very different for the plastic-y texture from those aforementioned polishes. The Maybelline Color Show nail polish is a lot runnier and I noticed that one coat definitely wasn’t enough to give a good coverage as it revealed lots of brush marks and uneven colouring. This was made better with 2 or 3 coats although I would recommend doing the third coat several hours after the first 2 to avoid smudging. However the results are very smooth and I was left with nails which actually went beyond burgundy, and instead looked black. This was quite disappointing because the color in the pots looked quite a bit lighter than the end result.
In all honesty, I’m not a fan of Maybelline but I tried to ignore that when giving this nail polish a go. It’s just that I’ve had a bad experience with the vast majority of Maybelline products I’ve tried, but keeping an open mind I made sure I applied this nail polish with a reliable base and and top coat (Barry M All in One) in order to give it the best fighting chance. Basically, I wanted to encourage it to last, but not too unsurprisingly it didn’t. I took the picture above a couple of hours after application and nearly every single nail tip shows sign of chipping. A day later and the chipping was much worse. Obviously this is a lot more noticeable with dark colours so I was very disappointed.
Not too unsurprisingly this nail polish is a cheap £2.99 to reflect its rubbish quality. I’d avoid it unless you know that you’ll only need coloured nails for a couple of hours. There are a good range of colours available in the Color Show range which is great, and the 7ml bottle is a good size, but the polish itself probably isn’t worth your effort.
