Makeup Monday: At Home Manicures

By Fitnspicy @fitnspicy

Random fact about me- my toes are always painted. Always. It has been since at least junior high that I have painted my toes every other week. Even in the winter my toes are painted, especially because I am still doing yoga in the winter and having freshly painted toes makes me happy. Besides always have my toes painted my nails are often painted as well, my colors range from pale pink to neon green. Usually my mantra is the brighter the better.

Here are a few of my favorite colors:

Julep Lawn Games Nail Art Kit

A great Summer collection with a variety of colors that are great for nails or toes

  • Sienna (Classic with a Twist): Sophisticated, shimmery gold
  • Emilie (It Girl): Emerald green crème
  • Dawn (It Girl): Citron crème
  • Brandt (Classic with a Twist): Trina Turk opaque off-black crème
  • Hannah (Boho Glam): Sage crème

Julep Lissa. It’s the perfect Summer blue. I got this in my June box and have used it quite a few times. Love this color!

And in my normal orange loving fashion Julep Saaya is really pretty on nails

I am also a huge fan of CND Vinylux. It gives you the look of a gel manicure with just polish and a top coat. It lasts up to 7 days, I am on day 5 with a light tan called Impossibly Plush and I have one nail with a chip. Pretty amazing considering I am really hard on my nails!

My favorite colors:

Impossibly Plush

Daring Escape

Rock Royalty

Strawberry Smoothie

Along with often having my nails and toes painted I do my own nails. While I enjoy getting a manicure I feel like I can do a pretty good job at home and it’s much cheaper! I’ve gotten it down to a science.

I trim and file my nails, buff with a mini sanding block, apply my base coat, 2 coats of nail polish and finish with the Seche Vite top coat. If my nails or hands are feeling extra dry I rub in some cuticle oil and let them try. The Seche Vite top coat really does help dry them faster. And as for organizing my colors? I have a bunch of bins from the $1 section at Target and have my polishes sorted by color. All I have to do is decide what color I am feeling and pick from the bin.
