"In memory, all perfumes are imperishable," wrote Patrick Süskind in his famous novel Perfume. He is not without reason. Who has not traveled to the past after breathing a specific aroma?

Fragrances can also provide that subtle touch that makes a home a more comfortable place to live; or become a hallmark if they are used as a personal perfume. This is a simple recipe to make rose water with which to perfume the home and which also serves as a natural and refreshing cologne.

1. COLLECT THE FLOWERS

The ideal thing is to use roses grown on the balcony or in the garden, free of pesticides - those that have lost the petals in a vase serve. One trick to make them smell more intensely is to grow them in soil that is rich in potassium. You can also use other flowers, such as lavender, jasmine, or orange blossom.

2. PREPARE THE PETALS

The petals of two roses are placed in a bowl and carefully cleaned with cold water. It is important to let them drain later on a colander or a rack. Once clean and dry, they are placed in a large glass bottle, 300 ml of distilled water are added and stirred well with a spoon.

3. ADD THE ALCOHOL

Once the petals have been mixed with the distilled water, the bottle is closed and left to rest in a dark place or covered with a cloth. After 24 hours, 300 ml of pharmacy alcohol (96 °) and 50 drops of rose essential oil are added to the bottle. It mixes everything well again.

4. BOTTLE THE WATER

Close the bottle and store again covered or in a dark place for at least three days. After that time the rose water is strained with the help of a strainer and, with a small funnel, it is introduced into a spray bottle. If the container is dark, the aroma is better preserved.
