Illamasqua Nail Polish in Swinger

I love love love gold nail polishes, and I’m also rather keen on Illamasqua. Naturally the two went hand-in-hand and I couldn’t prize myself away from the Illamasqua nail polish in the Swinger (gold) shade. My previous experience of gold polishes hasn’t been completely positive, see what I thought of this one.

The color itself is really pretty, and even after one coat the color is really strong because the polish is well pigmented. I would recommend a second coat for added boldness and longevity, as you can see in the picture above. The good thing about this Illamasqua nail polish, just like their others, is that it dries quickly and evenly. The polish applies smoothly and quickly with the standard-sized applicator, and so far I haven’t found that it smudges easily. The element I found most impressive is just how well it lasts.

Typically metallic shades tend to chip off quickly, but I’ve found that I can get a solid 2-3 days before I notice slight chipping on my index fingers. Given that the Swinger nail polish is well pigmented it’s easy to cover the chips with a quick touch up which is a great bonus. Doing this meant that the nail polish was left looking fine for about a week before chipping off beyond repair. Not mad considering some other gold nail polishes lasted just a few hours!

Naturally with results like this there’s a price to pay. This bottle will set you back by £14.50, but I got mine in the sale for £5 with free postage which I think is really reasonable. The large bottle is 15ml so holds a lot of nail polish meaning that it will last a long time, which is great because you will want to keep going back to this one.

My only criticism is that the Swinger nail polish does chip more quickly than Hemlock which isn’t a metallic shade, but I think a good base and top coat would work wonders at increasing the staying power. Other than that I’m really happy with Illamasqua’s Swinger. It’s bold, it’s a nice gold color and it’s shimmery and sparkly. I would definitely recommend it, and wouldn’t hesitate spending a little bit more money to get a nail polish which I know will be reliable and long-lasting.
