Hydra-Oil Review: Gentle & Effective For Dry Skin

By Makemeupmandy @mandywebb28
I recently got to try out Hydra-Oil, a range of essential caring oils for dry skin. I had mild ezcema as a child but am blessed enough to not have to affect me too badly. Still, I do have very dry skin especially on my legs, hands and feet. Not good for someone who loves wearing skirts and dresses!
Hydra-Oil is dermalogically tested, preservative free and claims to be non greasy and easily absorbed. I put 2 of their products to the test:

Hydra-Oil Replenishing Body Cream
This Replenishing Body Cream is "specifically formulated to help diminish the appearance of scars and other skin discolorations such as spots and stretch marks". It contains Tri Nano Oil which aids better absorption of the essential extracts and natural ingredients into the skin.
This Hydra-Oil Replenishing Body Cream can be used for a few purposes:
1) If you want to moisturise dry skin
2) If you want to treat scars/skin blemishes/stretch marks/wrinkled skin
3) If you want to treat/prevent stretch marks during pregnancy
Hydra-Oil Review: Gentle & Effective For Dry Skin
I decided to try it to treat my scar. Couple of weeks ago, I had a scar drama from my gardening tool falling from a height onto my thigh. My husband very helpfully reminded me that I had heaps of beauty products to use anyway, no need to fret. He was right, what better way to test out a product right? Great timing.

So twice a day , I have been using the Body Cream on my scar. It is really soothing, especially when my wound was starting to heal and itch. I massage the cream gently in a circular motion as per instructions, close my eyes and wait for magic to happen. Yes I do. Well, here's the magic that has happened.

Really happy with how well it has healed. I think what really helped was the intense hydration from the Body Cream. It is one of the most hydrating ones I have used so far, compared to a lot of the pricier and more fancy looking ones.

Hydra-Oil Anti Aging Tissue Oil Spray
This Tissue Oil Spray claims to help "repair the skin's natural barrier function to allow for increased moisture content" which then aids in "keeping skin cells viable, with enhanced elasticity and suppleness".

I tried this on my face (Instructions are to first spray into hands and then apply when used for face). It wasn't too greasy which was good and didn't cause any reactions/break outs. I am generally iffy about using oils on my face as I dislike the feeling & fear break outs.
I decided to test this Tissue Oil Spray on my legs. I have really dry, unattractive 'scaly' skin on my legs. Typical body creams have never been able to get rid of my 'scaly' skin even after I exfoliate and moisturize conscientiously.
The verdict? No, the unattractive scales on my legs have not disappeared magically overnight. But I am rather impressed with the improvement in my skin. For one, the dry patches are no longer as 'protruding'. In fact, they are more blended in with the rest of my skin and appear less noticeable. Might be a huge thing to say but it has improved so much that I am actually rather confident that if I keep using it, they might just disappear altogether. Perhaps a couple more months down the road. I will be sure to report back if it happens!
Only flaws I can think of is a strong 'medicated oil' smell to the products. They both have similar smells and it's not a bad one. I am actually quite acclimated to similar scents, having grown up around my grandfather who was always interested in medicines and oils. My husband did find it rather strong though not necessarily in a bad way. If you are allergic or if you mind fragrances/smells, do take note. Another thing is while I love the convenience of a spray can, there were times that the entire metal can got too oily from my hands that I found it hard to grip and press the nozzle further. What I do now is spray on both legs first then rub and spread so I don't have to tackle the can with oily hands again.
The best thing about Hydra-Oil is it has never made me itch or develop any nasty reaction in any way. I do own a little bottle of Bio-Oil for tummy stretch marks during my pregnancy but I stopped using it after only 2 or 3 times because it made me itch badly and I would scratch my tummy in my sleep, waking up with red & sore skin. Just my personal experience. With Hydra-Oil though, no itchiness, no reactions. I would highly recommend to people with very dry, dehydrated skin or if you find that typical body creams don't work as well for you.
If I had to choose one, which would I repurchase? Their purposes are slightly different. Tissue Oil gears more towards moisture/hydration/skin elasticity while Replenishing Body Cream is good for targeted issues such as scars/stretch marks etc. In terms of general moisturizing, both are really effective and I liked the Replenishing Body Cream just a tad bit more than the Tissue Oil Spray (just my personal preference regarding cream vs oil).

Hydra-Oil is conveniently available at Coles Supermarket.
Anti-Aging Tissue Oil Spray  (130 ml) $16.95

*Please note: these products were sent to me by PR. Still, this is my honest opinion and experience; uninfluenced and genuine.
