When you’re a working mom, is there ever a time when it doesn't feel as if you’re juggling a million things?

If you’re worried about dropping any of the many balls you’re keeping up in the air, then it might be time to look at bringing some balance to your life.

It can feel like an impossible task to balance your business, your family, and even your personal time.

How can you get the right balance to keep everyone happy and not lose your mind?

What’s the best way to actually do it all?

According to an article in Forbes Magazine, a 2012 study done by the Society for Human Resource Management suggested that the number of people seeking to attain the perfect work/life balance is rising every year.

The more people strain to “have it all,” the more dissatisfying they can become when specific goals are not attained.

This is particularly true for women who not only feel the tug of wanting to be successful at business, but also want to be there for their family and children.

However, maintaining the right balance can be achieved by putting four simple practices into place and by taking on a little creative planning.

Balance Your Life with Creative Planning

1) Don’t be afraid to schedule everything.

Your family time is just as important as your work time, and it’s okay to schedule it as such. If you consider that important conference call worthy enough of going down in your schedule, then how about including personal activities too?

Decide what’s important to you.

For example, if having dinner with your family every night is important for you, schedule it is as an immovable object just like that business meeting.

2) Put down the technology during family time.

Getting the family together and switching off can be highly satisfying for everyone. Turn off the TV, phones and computers and try spending some time together.

You can have your little one in a baby play yard while the rest of the family engage in a favorite game, or make cookies together.

Any activity is a good activity, as long as your family feels like they have your undivided attention. You can even schedule in a once-a-week family outing to the bowling alley or even a new movie.

3) Take some time out for yourself.

When you’re a mother and a businesswoman, giving yourself to everyone becomes who and what you are. However, taking the time to recharge your batteries with a little good old fashioned personal TLC time is just as important.

Ask your family, friends or spouse to help out with the kids for an hour or two so you can do something as simple as read a book or take a bath. Powering down can be essential for you to be the best you can be both at work and at home.

4) Make daily and weekly to-do lists.

Take some time every week to make a list of things you want to achieve both in business and at home. Try to keep these goals both achievable and attainable.

At the start of every day, take a look at these and make your daily schedule so you can see how to go about attaining these important items. While you may not get all of them done, you will certainly be more on track than you were before.

If you’re struggling to have a balanced life then it might be time to re-evaluate how you’re handling your business and personal goals.
