Highlights: New Beauty Releases in October 2014

By Makemeupmandy @mandywebb28

With so many new beauty releases hitting the shelves each month, I thought it’s about time I share some of my highlights and recommendations. I usually get to try out these products a few weeks before they launch officially so most of what I’m covering here is my general or first impression. If you’d like to know more about any specific product, let me know and I can always do a more in depth post.

New Rimmel 25 Hr Foundation Jurlique Cleansing Mousse Hydra Oil Innoxa TIGI

Rimmel has introduced their Lasting Finish 25 Hr Foundation in two new formulas – Lasting Finish 25 Hr Foundation Nude Foundation which offers a medium coverage and the Lasting Finish 25 Hr Foundation with Comfort Serum which offers full coverage. I haven’t been excited by any new foundation releases in a long while but these two have really hit home with me. The Nude is slightly more lightweight and reminds me a lot of the very popular Bourjois Healthy Mix of which I’m a huge fan as well.  For someone with combination-dry skin, the Comfort Serum offered me an easily blendable full coverage. It never looked cakey and I even wore it without undereye concealer as it helped cover my undereye circles quite adequately.

Both have SPF20 and claim to be sweat, heat, humidity and transfer-proof for up to 25 hours. I don’t know about 25 hours as I’ve never had either on for so long but I alternated between both on two long days out at sea with lots of sun and sweat and they held up really, really well.

Jurlique‘s released 3 new cleansers last month and I got to try out the Herbal Recovery Antioxidant Cleansing Mousse. I was very curious as I haven’t tried a mousse cleanser before (I try to steer clear from any kinds of cleansers that are not gel-based as I find most of the others dry my skin out). This Jurlique Cleansing Mousse is far from being one of those, thankfully. It uses a blend of botanical oils that include extracts of Jojoba, Grape Seed, Safflower, Rose Hip and Starflower. One of my most reached for cleansers now.

Never been a big lip gloss fan, I’m anti-sticky or greasy anything. Jurlique‘s released their antioxidant-rich Hydra-Gloss with Nutri-Oil Complex in 2 shades – I’m Neutral and I’m Blushing. Can I just say – Holy Grail?! It is ultra hydrating with its blend of Safflower Oil, Birch, Black Elder and Licorice Root extracts with a very slight mint scent and sensation upon application. They call it a “gel-balm” and I do think that’s the best way to describe it. The texture is very gel-like with a thinner consistency and fades off into a balm that stays equally hydrating for hours. It never ever dries my lips out at any point and the shine it gives is just gorgeous.

Innoxa’s Skin Perfecting BB Powder 5 in 1 claims to help minimize skin imperfections, reduce appearance of fine lines & pores, absorb excess oil, correct skin tone and calm & soothe. It’s available in 3 shades – Buff, Beige and Bronze. I had the Bronze shade land on my desk for a try and as it was so much darker than my skin tone, I used it as exactly that a bronzer more than as an actual powder. One thing about it is it has quite obvious shimmer (though they’re not exactly chunky glitters) but they are quite obvious even when just swatching. It wasn’t a big deal for me as I only apply with a very light hand as a bronzer but I’m not sure how it’d turn out if used as a powder. I haven’t seen the Buff and Beige shades either and am not sure if they have as much shimmer in them // Currently on 25% discount here.

Innoxa’s Skin Perfecting CC Primer claims to go the extra mile with its “powerful antioxidant & anti-ageing formulation”. It has a medium, gel-creme consistency and an obvious lavender coloured tinge in the tube that blends to a clear. It helps to conceal the slight redness around my nose well and does even out and brighten my skin tone well when I tried it on its own without any other makeup. Worn under makeup, I love how it helped to conceal imperfections and just made my foundation go on so well. My skin did look a lot brighter and healthier. It did however feel a little oily after a short one or two hours and I had to touch up with some powder (something that I usually don’t have to do). Not a fan of the smell but I’m surprised by how much I like this primer.

TIGI Catwalk had two new releases that hit the shelves last month: Session Series Finishing Hairspray (300ml) and the Hairista Cream for Split End Repair (90ml). The Finishing Hairspray is great for holding updos and curls (the latter being more of my thing – I’m terribly with updos). I don’t use a lot of hair products but when I do, I love how this hairspray dries fast and is humidity resistant. It doesn’t dry my hair out and keeps my hair feeling natural and flexible even with its firm, long-lasting hold. The Hairista Cream has been my go-to everytime I wash my hair now as it helps to faciliate blow drying. This prepping emulsion helps to repair split ends while preventing new ones from forming and I tell ya, it leaves my hair looking very shiny and healthy. Winner!

Have you spotted any of these goodies on the shelves already? Which ones are on your wish list to try?
