The GIS Centre of Excellence section within the Land and Resources Cluster’s Application Development Group is seeking a System Developer/Analyst that will design, develop and maintain software systems, applications and interfaces that provide access to geographic information. Position: one temporary (up to six months)
What can I expect to do in this role?
You will:
- develop and interpret program and code specifications for geospatial applications
- support production systems performance and availability
- develop system benchmarking and prototypes
- assist in the design and development of systems architectures
Location: 300 Water Street, Peterborough, Ontario
How do I qualify?
Technical Knowledge and Expertise:
- you possess applied knowledge of systems development and object oriented development methodologies
- you have in-depth knowledge of procedures for managing geospatial information
- you possess expert knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) concepts
- you have expert knowledge of ArcObject COM development environment
- you also possess advanced programming skills in a variety of languages (e.g. ASP.NET, C#, Javascript, Flex, ActionScript, Python)
- you possess expert knowledge of ESRI technology including ArcGIS platform and Oracle customization and SQL
Knowledge:
- you possess working knowledge of servers and operating systems, personal computers, networking, Internet technologies and emerging technologies
- you have working knowledge of CASE tools and VISIO
- you are knowledgeable of and possess the ability to apply and interpret government IT standards, policies and procedures
- you possess working knowledge of servers and operating systems, personal computers, networking, Internet technologies and emerging technologies
Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills:
- you possess demonstrated group leadership skills to effectively liaise with clients, determine needs, make recommendations and market new ideas and applications to senior management
- you possess highly developed analytical and problem solving-skills to assess server and computer issues while assisting clients in a timely manner
Interpersonal and Communication Skills:
- you possess highly developed verbal communication skills to interact with clients and colleagues
- you demonstrate excellent written communication skills to create technical reports and can document technical information
- you possess the ability to work alone and with a team on various projects and through issues
- you also possess experience in providing technical expertise to team environments that may either be technical or non-technical in nature

Salary range: $1,174.21 – $1,478.67 per week
