With Dr. Oz rocketing this natural herbal weight loss supplement into the media spotlight when he featured it on his popular show, it’s no wonder forskolin has everyone talking these days.

On his show, Dr. Oz called forskolin “lightning in a bottle.” He continued to say,  “It’s a miracle flower to fight fats.” Does forskolin live up to Dr. Oz’s praise or is it all overblown hype?

Forskolin comes from a plant in the mint family, called the coleus forskohlii or the Indian Coleus. As the name suggests, it’s native to tropical regions of Southeast Asia, particularly Thailand, India, and Nepal. It has a long history of use in folk medicine in those same regions. (1)

Unfortunately, just as his critics condemned Dr. Oz’s recommendations of garcinia cambogia, they are speaking out against his glowing review of forskolin.

Oz’s opposition has actually brought him to court over his unadulterated recommendation of forskolin and other diet supplements. Senator Claire McCaskill in a hearing against Oz before the Senate subcommittee on Consumer Protection, Product Safety and Insurance asked, “When you have this amazing megaphone, why would you cheapen your show?”

Oz’s response, “I would give my audience the same advice I give my family, and I have given my family these products” further solidifying his endorsement of forskolin’s potential to be a very useful weight loss tool. (8)
