Fitness Friday Thoughts on CrossFit and PiYo

By Fitnspicy @fitnspicy

2 weeks ago I tried Cross Fit with my blog friend Kristen, we went to an intro class at Liftbridge CrossFit in Stillwater. Since we were out of town last weekend I didn’t have a chance to write my thoughts about it. It was one of those fitness experiences that I needed some time to digest. And that’s not a bad thing!

I wasn’t nervous about it because I have been working out continuously working out for the past 15 years and I have tried so.many.workouts! Liftbride CrossFit offers a free intro class on Saturday mornings and that was incredibly helpful. Our coach Matt talked about the basic principles and took us through a warm-up and then explained the workout of the day concept and showed us all of the moves. Matt took the time to ensure our form was correct, we understood the moves and gave us options to change things up if something was to hard.

WOD

Burpees

Wallballs

Box Jumps

As Many Rounds as Possible (AMRAP)  in 11 minutes

We had a certain number of each to do and I managed to get 7 rounds in. I was pretty proud of myself! By the end of the 11 minutes I was a sweaty mess. I 100% understand the appeal of CrossFit. We had a blast doing it and it was a really great workout. This is something I could see myself doing but it is hard for me to commit to a specific time. Between work, travel, and other events my schedule is not predictable enough. They do have a morning class but I still need to shower and they don’t have locker rooms

:(

4 Things I Loved About My First CrossFit Class

  1. Learning the technique for each move.
  2. Trying something new!
  3. Realizing how hard you work in those 11 minutes.
  4. Pushing my limits.

4 Things I Didn’t Love About My First CrossFit Class

  1. Getting dirty. I know this is incredibly trivial but I really hate getting dirty. Sweaty, yes. But dirty just isn’t my cup of tea.
  2. Doubting myself. Again, this is all one me but I let those thoughts of doubt creep in and I may have been able to do more if I would have just let go and gone for it.
  3. The desire to compete. In general I am really not a competitive person but going for as many rounds or a certain time makes me more aware of it. And instead of just pushing myself I find the need to “win”. And that is not what it is about!
  4. The cost. While this first class of free the monthly cost for CrossFit is just too much. I still need yoga, group fitness classes and other types of cardio in my life. If there could just be the gym that had it all I would sign up in a second!!

In other news I am trying out a new Beachbody workout and have decided to be a coach! This isn’t something that I am doing to make money it’s because I really love the workouts. Over the years I have done Turbofire, P90x, and now PiYo. I am LOVING it so far. Even as someone who does yoga on a regular basis Chalene has a way of making it an amazing workout. If you are interested in any workouts, let me know! I am working my way through PiYo and would love to have you join me.
