Fitness Friday: On Staying Healthy

By Fitnspicy @fitnspicy

The Better Chip provided me with product and/or compensation for this post, however the opinions I shared are my own.

Let’s be honest, staying healthy and active can be really challenging sometimes. Would I like to sleep in everyday, indulge in all of my favorite foods and skip workouts sometimes? Of course. But I know how I feel when I don’t stay healthy and active. It’s not worth it! Now do I indulge? Of course. But sticking to my schedule keeps it manageable.

A typical week:

Sunday- Gym for weights and cardio, cleaning up the house, some food prep for during the week and usually making a big dinner at home.

Monday- Off day from the gym but I pack a healthy smoothie for breakfast, snacks for during the day and usually end up taking leftovers for lunch. Dinner is often something lighter, maybe a big salad, soup or pasta.

Tuesday- Yoga Sculpt, and usually eating at work and a bigger dinner again. I plan out meals for the week and make sure we have the groceries on hand to make them. Saves a lot of time and stress when trying to figure out what to have for dinner.

Wednesday- Usually the gym for weights and cardio, but if I am feeling super sore from earlier workouts I may skip it. This is usually my day to eat out for lunch, it breaks up my week and gets me out of the office!

Thursday- Yoga sculpt, and again packing my huge lunch bag full of food and snacks. And since I have a love of salty snacks lately I’ve been packing bags of The Better Chip " target="_blank">The Better Chip. The new beet chips are my favorite and especially with hummus.

Friday- If I didn’t hit the gym Wednesday I will make up for it here, of it’s a much needed day off. I workout hard and need at least 2 rest days, sometimes 3. But that doesn’t mean I do nothing! Maybe we take the dogs for a longer walk or I am running around the house doing laundry, cleaning up, etc. I really do aim for my 10,000 steps a day.

A few of my other tips:

  • Prep you items the night before, I have my gym bag packed and ready by the back door.
  • My lunch is ready to go and all I need to do is grab the cold items from the fridge.
  • Stick to a schedule. It makes it so much easier to just be in the routine of going to the  gym!
  • Motivate yourself with things like a new workout shirt, great music or a magazine.
  • Have snacks with you, either in your bag or at your desk. If I have healthy options I will eat them instead of raiding that darn candy bowl outside my office (and somehow it’s always full!)

Any great tips to share?
