Fitness Friday: Grit

By Fitnspicy @fitnspicy

Since I have a serious case of I get bored easily with workouts, I am often looking for something new to try.  I love my gym and yoga studio and am committed to my workouts there but sometimes you just need a different style workout for a few weeks.

A new studio just opened near work and home and they were offering a free week and a chance to try one of their intensive 6-week programs. Hmm, intensive had my attention. I emailed and added my name to the class for the next 6 Saturday mornings.

Ekara is a studio that teaches Les Mills classes including Body Pump, Body Combat, Body Jam, Body Flow, RPM, Pilates and Martial Arts. It had been years since I’ve taken a true Body Pump class. My current gym doesn’t offer it

So last Saturday morning I headed to the studio for my 9:15am Grit class, a 6 week intensive workout program. And intensive it was, in the 30 minute class I burned 350+ calories! It was a mix of cardio, weights, and plyometrics. All high intensity interval training in a small group. 30 minutes of butt kicking and I loved every second of it.

I will be excited to see my progress over the 6 weeks. We did a few tests at the start and I am hoping my numbers go up.

Even though that 30 minutes was hard enough I got convinced to stay for Body Combat, think martial arts inspired cardio with lots of punching and kicking. In that (long) hour I burned over 600+ calories. By the end of those two classes I was done.

Since I had a week free I wanted to take advantage of a few more classes:

Saturday: Grit and Body Combat

Sunday: C2 at my yoga studio to help with the soreness (it didn’t really help)

Monday: Body Pump, I had forgotten how much I love it. I convinced Scott to come with me and I think he was swearing at me for a few days because he was so sore.

Tuesday: Off Day! Much needed.

Wednesday: Yoga Sculpt

Thursday: Yoga Sculpt

Friday: I am going to try Body Jam tonight, hopefully I like it.

Saturday: Grit Class #2
