Summary:
I’ve been wearing Fitflops for quite a while now. See my Fitflop Mukluk boots review for an idea about how they work and what makes them so good! The Fitflop shoes have a special sole which is wedge shaped, designed to workout your legs, improve your posture and also help with ailments such as arthritis. However I’ve just found them incredibly comfortable to wear and that’s my main reason for wearing them. They have improved my posture because they do encourage you to stand up more straight, and the slight bounce of the sole makes it easy to walk for long distances. I’ve had numerous pairs of Fitflops and it feels weird for me to go back to normal flat shoes, but I have had problems along the way sadly.
At first the Shuv mules felt lovely. They held my feet tightly and they are so easy to slip on. I’ve got quite long trousers so they just look like I’m wearing boots, so it’s just so convenient knowing I can slip them on when I’m in a rush or I feel like letting my feet breathe. There isn’t much padding in these shoes but I quite like that because it stops them feeling bulky and it stops my feet feeling really warm and sweaty. However I have found that these, like the Trimsole Hannah mules, have definitely got looser over time. These not as much so as the Trimsole mules, but I have definitely noticed that my feet have started to move around inside of the shoe when I walk. With the cold weather I’ve been opting for fluffy socks which make my feet move around even more; not because of the extra width – that’s actually quite beneficial – but rather because of the lack of grip and the acrylic tendencies of fluffy socks. As such I don’t feel like I have much support when I’m walking around and do have to slow down a little, especially when going down hills or walking on uneven surfaces. The bottoms of the shoes don’t have much grip either so it really is important for me to have the extra support inside of the shoe to compensate, which I sadly haven’t got from these mules.
Other issues really are quality control. I usually have to try out 3 different pairs of shoes in the same size and style to see which are the most comfortable because there really are huge issues with quality control. The shoes can often feel incredibly different, from being slightly bigger/smaller, or bad seams which dig into your feet. I don’t really think that that should be the case considering how expensive Fitflops are. These were £55 and after 3 months they have begun to look a bit tatty and they do feel loose. I have been wearing other shoes too so it’s not down to solid use. Otherwise, Fitflops in general are comfy and these aren’t an exception to the rule. I just would have expected them to not loosen up as much as they have, and I don’t like how my feet move around in them when I’m walking around. I do like how the Anthracite shade of these shoes means they can be smart and casual, and they do go with a range of different outfits and colours. They are made of felt which means they do get a little bit fluffy over time though. Yet they are comfortable to wear all day long, and the extra height they give you is perfect for that little bit of added confidence.
I would recommend these shoes, but I would tell you to be aware of the fact that they do loosen up over time. If you’ve got quite slim feet then this will likely be a big problem for you and you’ll probably find that these shoes will be falling off constantly. Otherwise you shouldn’t have too many problems with these.
