Yeah...not so much. NYX says this primer is supposed to "eliminate the look of oil and shine so face stays matte and fresh all day long."
The texture of this primer is like your standard silicone based primer. However, when you blend it in, it feels more greasy than anything I have ever put on my face. It feels more greasy than some face oils I have tried. If you let it set for a few minutes, some of the greasiness does go away. It doesn't feel sticky or heavy after application, so it has that going for it. Foundation and concealer also blend really well on top of it. However, there is no noticeable matte finish. In fact, my skin actually feels very hydrated and dewy.
Fast forward to a few hours later. My skin becomes an oily mess. In fact, I would say that my already oily skin looks even more oily than it normally would. That is bad for any primer, but when it is called Shine Killer, it is disappointing on another level. By the day's end, well, everything is just a hot mess. BUT my foundation doesn't separate and it is still on. It just looks very greasy. Basically, if you have oily skin, stay away from this primer. It won't do a thing for you.
By the way, please excuse any random flakes in my hair. My dermatitis has been flaring up a lot lately and the shampoo I use for it doesn't seem to be working as well as it used to.
The first picture was taken about 30 minutes after applying the primer. The bottom three were taken six hours later. I included pictures taken on my phone because I think it gives a better idea of how oily my skin got.
If you are looking for something to help with blurring your pores, this also will not do very much for you. In regards to the general appearance of my skin, this didn't do anything at all. You are supposed to be able to wear this alone to combat shine, but that didn't work very well for me either.
I do like the packaging. It just a basic squeeze tube, but the way it is designed prevents too much from coming out. This primer does contain dimethicone crosspolymer as the first ingredient and dimethicone as the second. I usually look for this before I buy a product because I am not a fan of using products with dimethicone in them. Most of the time they break me out, and I do notice a small pimple or two popping up after using this primer. But I figured I would give this a try anyways.
I love NYX and they do have some amazing products, but the Shine Killer Primer is certainly not one of them. This primer is $14 for 0.67 oz. You can also get a larger size on NYX's website for $25. Ulta also has NYX products BOGO 50% off right now, so if you do want to try it, now would be a good time.
