You know when you meet someone, and the energy they emit is vibrant and joyful – they have passion in spades and it shines out of them so that they almost seem to glow? This type of magnetism is almost animalistic. It draws you in and it just feels good to be around that person.

Equally, someone with a negative energy field that feels almost confusing to be around are often those who have suppressed themselves. People usually do this to avoid pain or others’ negativity, and I’ve done this numerous times myself. However, what you’re emitting is often what you attract to yourself. If you are trying to avoid pain and bad energy, these are the two things that seem to define your own outlook – and you tend to attract others to you that are in the same head space.

Creating the good type of energy for yourself, so that it shines brightly out of you like the sun shining from your chest, is not as elusive as you might think. The way to get it is to express who you are. Not what you want to be, or how you see others being when they are in a happy state. It’s about working on knowing yourself to the point where you can follow the trail of feelings that put you into a great state.

Being in a great energy space is not just about feeling good. It’s also a fundamental element of good health. Without having positive energy, and feeling good about yourself, who you are and what you are doing in life, good health is only one piece of a puzzle that can often feel incomplete. Even if you are at your ideal weight, and you are eating perfectly, being in a negative head space can detract from you physically, spiritually and mentally.

I have found that even when I’m exercising and eating really well, doing meditations and generally leading a great lifestyle, if my head isn’t in a good place then I won’t feel truly healthy and strong. Conversely, if I am in a great head space, even if I’m only intermittently doing all of the physical practices towards good health, I can still feel completely healthy.

A huge part of health is self-love, and someone with a strong sense of this is able to express themselves fully, and put out to the world the vibrant energy field that I mentioned earlier. Whenever I come across someone that glows with great energy and passion, I always tend to wonder what their health practices are like. Often I’m surprised if they don’t really have great practices at play, but now I’m starting to figure out that I shouldn’t be surprised. This type of energy can only shine from a much higher place than simply a physical practice.

The best thing is, you can have this incredible energy as well by expressing who you are. Here’s how:

Know yourself well

Know what makes you tick, and what success looks like to you. Don’t just think about the physical attributes of success – rather, how does success feel to you? I have recently been reading and listening to women like Melissa Ambrosini and Danielle La Porte, who both promote the feelings of success as opposed to the actuality of it. If you had everything you wanted, how would that feel? Those feelings are the ones that you need to chase in life. You can only do this by knowing yourself well – and often, what we feel envious of in others is a great indication of what we truly desire for ourselves.

Give yourself permission to take time for you

Particularly as women, we tend to put everyone and everything else first and leave our own needs until last. You have to actually give yourself permission to take the time to do the things you want to do. First, you might have to take the time to find out what it is that you want to do, and what makes you tick. Then, the trick is to put it into action. Not just once, but regularly. It’s never a destination you’ll arrive at – it’s about growing, learning along the way, and adjusting as you move forward.

Maintain discipline

Often we think that by being disciplined we’ll miss out on other things. By exercising, we’ll miss out on down time; by writing, we’ll miss out on time with our friends; by meditating, we’re missing out on experiencing the world while we sit locked away from it. This is not what it’s all about. I’ve had this so many times in the past – the fear of missing out syndrome, I think it’s called. By doing one thing, I’m automatically cutting myself off from another and I worry about that! The way to get around it is to back your choices. Know that what you’re doing is perfect for you right nowFeel how good it feels to enact your decisions. Discipline is required to pursue anything worthwhile, and only you will know the line that must not be crossed from discipline to self-deprivation. Through pursuing your passions with love and positive energy, discipline is made so much easier.

How do you express who you are in life?
