I got my Elemis Fresh Skin – Skin Glow Exfoliating Face Wash sample in my January 2013 ‘Detox’ Glossybox. I’ve never really tried exfoliators, but I have been on a long search for a product which will contain the excess oil on my face and clear out my pores. Anything which will make my skin look fresher and get rid of old skin can only be a good thing. I hadn’t actually heard of the Elemis brand before receiving it in my GlossyBox, but it seems to be quite a popular and well-loved brand amongst quite a range of people. I’ve really taken the exfoliator at face value as I haven’t been influenced by the brand at all, so everything I tell you really is on my own first impression.
The first thing that’s obvious about the Elemis Skin Glow exfoliator is the pinky-purple tube which I personally think looks a bit cheap and nasty. Although Elemis have presumably tried to make the tube look better by using nice metallic gray and white writing, I still think it looks a bit rubbish. The smell too is so off-putting. It’s meant to smell of mandarin and anaseed but I think it just smells like some sort of bathroom or toilet cleaner. I really don’t think it’s particularly pleasant and I was reluctant to put it on my face…
The tube advises applying and massaging the exfoliator into wet skin and rinsing thoroughly. I found that you only need a small amount of the face wash because it spreads well – perhaps only the size of a couple of peas. It’s a translucent yellow face wash with lots of little jojoba beads which will polish and smooth the skins texture. The face wash also includes cherry powder. The exfoliant face wash has been designed to leave skin looking clear and more radiant, and to make skin feel softer.
I can definitely say that my skin did feel softer after using the Elemis Fresh Skin Exfoliating Face Wash, but I found the beads were a little uncomfortable. I didn’t rub them in particularly hard, but I didn’t like the uneven and rough sensation. I found that my skin didn’t look brighter, but my nose looked a lot shinier because the exfoliator had polished it horribly. I wasn’t impressed, and although I had hoped that it would prevent oiliness, it didn’t do that either. After 4 or 5 hours of using this, without additional facial products or make up, my skin was still oily. I was really disappointed.
Overall, I didn’t like the smell of this product, the look of it, or the feel of it. The result was no good either. Although it’s only £12 for 100ml and you only need a little of the facial wash each time, I wouldn’t pay that. In fact, it’s unlikely that I’ll finish my sample. I’m quite disappointed with all aspects of this exfoliator, although it did make my face soft.
