Ecotools Bamboo 6 Piece Eye Brush Set

By Makemeupmandy @mandywebb28
This Ecotools Bamboo 6 Piece Eye Brush Set review has been sitting in my drafts folder for ages. About time it sees the light of day, I say!
Before I joined in the whole beauty blogging game for some fun, I was more of a bare hands person when it came to applying make up. Sure, I had a few make up brushes here and there but nothing really worth mentioning. I was looking for a good set of eye brushes and what better value than this Ecotools set? I bought this off iHerb for a mere $7.22 (they deliver from USA).

This set consists of 5 brushes (Yes, the mysterious 6th piece is really the cotton case. Kind of misleading, really.): Large Eye Brush, Angled Crease Brush, Petite Shading Brush, Highlighting Brush and Smudge Brush.
Large Eye Brush

This brush is wide and flat, tapering towards the middle. I was a little confused with the description which said "blending". I didn't think the style or the size of the brush was very suitable for blending. (Really, the obvious blending brush of this set is the Highlighting Brush). I do however use it to apply my base shadow all over my lid.
Angled Crease Brush

This is my favourite and most used brush of the set. I find that this brush picks up just the right amount of eye shadow and manages to apply evenly too. I love the angled shape which really helps to apply the crease shade when I use it along my crease lines. Also, I often use it just on the outer corners of my eyes. Especially when I want to go for an extended cat-eye flick, the angled shape comes useful in helping me control my application.
Highlighting Brush

Reasonably useful as a highlighting brush as stated but even more useful as a blending brush. I used this for blending before I got my Sigma E25 Blending Brush. While it cannot be compared with a specifically made blending brush such as the Sigma one, it serves the purposes well enough. I use it to blend out harsh edges or apply a highlighting shade to my brow bone.
Petite Eye Shading Brush

As an eye shading brush, this brush is a little too small for my preference. It does do a good job of packing on a good amount of product in relativity to its size but I just don't find it practical to be using it for a large area. When I do use it, I find that I need to do a lot of blending (since it is so small, it doesn't do a very good job in applying evenly). Most of the time, I just reach for my Angled Crease Brush in favour of this one.

Smudge Brush

My 2nd most reached for brush of the lot. I use this to smudge out my eyeliner for a more blended smoky eye look. More often though, I use it to apply a pop of colour (always!) on my lower lashline. I really enjoy using this brush; it is soft, allows for very clean, precise application with no mess and is useful in applying shadow on the inner corners of the eye too.
If you don't own any eye brushes and are looking for a good, well performing and affordable set to start with, this Ecotools one is a really good deal. They are really soft, well made and useful (though I did end up using them for different purposes other than what they were stated for). For $7.22 for a whole set, definitely thumbs up from me!
Do you have this Ecotools set? What do you think?
