What is your dream?
To write few good books. I have always wanted to become a writer. I love writing, and I write everyday, whether it is my anonymous review for Rotten Tomatoes, a daily input on Wikipedia or just a page in my diary. I could not live without writing or reading. I come from home where books are literally everywhere, and reading is a matter of habit. I am contaminated with love for books.
What is your dream job?
Writing and being able to make a living from it. My mom taught me to write when I was only 3, and at the age of 4 I was reading already. I began composing my first stories at the age of 8, and I had published my first short novel when I was 11. Being aware of the fact that writing might not be the most practical and bread-winning profession, I followed my dad’s advice and went to study law.
Many good writers had studied or practised law before they took a turn into their writing careers. And that was the strategy I chose for myself. I do not regret it although the studies proved to be quite difficult.
How did you achieve your goal = dream job? / how do you plan to achieve your goal=dream job?
I did not achieve what I would like to yet. Because of my studies, I had abandoned creative writing for a while. I slowly came back to it by…editing and writing articles on Wikipedia. Later, I signed up to journalism and writing workshops led by Nina Siegal from New York Times. Afterwards, I began writing for Amsterdam Law School magazine, and Folia, the online magazine of the University of Amsterdam. But those are very humble beginnings. I believe that ”the big” is yet to come.
What is your tip to others concerning the Dream Job / Life?
Write everyday. Keep the focus on your goals all the time. Do not run away from or avoid obstacles- rather try to face them. Personally, I like dealing with adversity because it usually thrives to bring the best out of me. Also, patience and endurance are very important. Very important…Quoting Mikhail Bulgakov, one of my favorite writers, things always turn out right because the world is built that way. In other words, never give up.
Who are you?
I was born in West Poland, educated at an international high school, and since 8 years I have been living in the Netherlands. My family comes from the Ukraine and East Poland. Although I grew up in a pretty cosmopolitan surroundings, I have a very strong sense of my East European identity. I feel more Slavic now than a couple of years ago. Being Slavic means being more spiritual, more nostalgic and melancholic. The hard to grasp Slavic soul is mystical, unexplained and sometimes difficult to understand by others.
