Summary:

I got this Ciate nail polish free in a Marie Claire magazine in April 2013 and was pleased to see a nice gold available. I’m yet to try any of the Ciate nail polishes so I was eager to give it a go, especially as it looked so pretty with its little black bow. The results you see in the picture are from 2 coats and after 5 days of wear.
It’s worth noting that the coats this nail polish provides (shade Sand Dune 085) are very weak and 2 layers of this nail polish are the equivalent to 1 coat with many other brands. A little disappointing, but the subtle shimmery look may suit some people. I personally think the 2 layers look unfinished, uneven and inconsistent, although I did find that 3 coats gave a better overall finish. This nail polish dries quickly too which makes 3 coats easily achievable, and I didn’t find any smudging which is a definite bonus.
As you can see in the picture, there is some bad chipping on my index finger and on the tips. The chipping happened after 2 days and gradually worsened, even with the additional third coat. It did last longer when using top coat, but I’m after a nail polish with more staying power. This pretty 13.5ml bottle costs £9 to buy and yet I’ve found better results from the Barry M LE 2012 Xmas nail polish. I’d still like to give some of the other Ciate nail polishes a go to see if different colours provide better results, especially as the bottle is very ergonomic to hold during application, the handle of the brush is long, and the bow is unusual.
On the whole, I do like this nail polish for its drying ability and smooth-finish, but I think it’s a little too weak and not pigmented enough. I also think it chips too quickly, but seeing as the layers are weak, touching up doesn’t look uneven or too unnatural. I did really like the color and the shimmery effect that this polish gives with 3 coats which is why I wouldn’t be opposed to using it a lot.
