On the weekends, I usually plan my following week’s blog lineup. My selection process is somewhat arbitary. Here’s my shortlisting criteria:
- If it’s a large bulky item and taking up space, I’ll blog about it so that I can either give it away or stash it into my cupboard.
- If it’s really good, I’ll be really excited and want to blog about it.
- If I have the same item in many colours, I’ll want to swatch them all and thus, want to blog about it.
- If it isn’t that good, I’ll also want to blog about it so that people will know.
- If it’s expensive, I’ll want to test it out to see if it’s worth the money.
- If it’s cheap, I’ll want to see if it sucks.
As you can see, that basically sums up everything in my room. #firstworldproblems
The criteria for me wanting to blog about this item? Simply cos it’s Chanel. I mean, who can resist a Chanel? After pawing, hemming, hawing and slobbering over this for some time, I finally decided to use it.

Chanel is a brand that’s all about the luxury image, and their makeup items are no exception.
- Let’s talk about the packaging first – it comes in a slightly heavier than normal metallic (?) casing. I assume it’s metal or some form of alloy cos it’s cool to the touch.
- It’s a twist-up mechanism, but not from the pencil’s ass. You twist from the middle portion, and this is where it gets iffy. It’s where you also hold the pencil to draw, and if it keeps twisting and retracting the lead, how da hell am I gonna draw? tsk.
- It comes with an inbuilt sharpener at the pencil’s arse.
- The lead is soft and goes on smoothly without pulling the skin.
- However, it does take several strokes for the colour to come out nicely – one stroke is too faint.
- It comes with miniscule gold and reddish brown sparkle shimmers, which adds a hint of depth to your brown colour.
- So far, it seems to perform alright – it lasts about 3-5 hours before smudging, and then fades into nothing.
As much as I love Chanel and would run a 10km marathon to get a free 2.55, I’m gonna have to sadly compare this with the Majolica Majorca Cream Pencil Liner. The brown shade is very similar, and the level of smudge-proofness is also very similar.
If you were to ask me to spend US$30 on this, I have one word for you – IMPOSSIBRUUUUUU. But if you’re Singapore’s average neighbourhood millionaire, like what this WSJ article says, sure, go ahead and buy alllll the colours
