Butter London Nail Polish Brown

Butter London are the brand who pioneered carcinogen-free nail polishes. The range of colours is large and vibrant, and their 3 Free formula contains no formaldehyde, toluene or DBP. Often used in nail salons, I wanted to see how well this nail polish lasted.

The above picture is after 2 coats of Butter London nail lacquer. Vernis is a nice neutral brown colour, ideally versatile and understated. It’s a really runny nail polish that applies fairly unevenly, but does dry reasonably quickly. I did have to wait about 15-30mins between coats otherwise the polish smudges, although that’s standard practice for me.

And this picture is after 3 coats. The color is much more even and smooth, but even after waiting an hour of not touching anything, I still found the nail polish smudged and got weird dents and lines in it, and this has happened every time I’ve tried to use this nail polish. Perhaps I’m missing a trick, but I find Butter London really difficult to apply nicely, and I’m yet to get long-lasting and smooth nails.

Worse, though, is how easily the Butter London nail lacquer chips. After a day, at least 4 nails had small chips on them so I don’t really understand how they can justify charging £12 a pot. Oddly, no more chips appeared for 2 more days, but then after that the chipping got quite bad. As the lacquer is so runny it’s hard to touch up nails when they do chip because it ends up looking like some sort of brown camouflage effect, so I haven’t really got along with this product.

Whilst it’s a nice-looking polish and a greener product than most high street alternatives, it doesn’t have very good staying power, smudge resistance or fluidity. I like how it’s free from bad chemicals, but I won’t be buying another polish.
