Brand Spotlight: MooGoo Skincare

By Makemeupmandy @mandywebb28

Having suffered from mild eczema myself, I’ve always been drawn to natural brands that are gentle on my skin. Especially with a preschooler (there I’ve said it – I’ll try not to say toddler anymore) who also has mild eczema, I pay even more attention now ever since she was born. One product/ingredient I have yet to try though is cow’s milk. When I heard about Australian brand MooGoo, I knew I had to give their range a go.

MooGoo is all about natural, healthy ingredients, plant oils and extracts… and to make things even better, their range is extremely affordable. In their range, you won’t find nasties such as paraffin oil, synthetic preservatives (eg. parabens) and sodium laureth sulphate.

MooGoo’s star ingredient is their udder cream, adapted into a lighter and non-greasy formulation. If you’ve never heard of udder cream, it’s a thick lotion that is used in dairy farms on the skins of the cows’ udders in order to soothe, hydrate and prevent cracking. Having been formulated into a moisturizing ingredient for skincare ranges, it is known to help gently moisturize the skin and treat roughness and skin irritations.

I was sent a milk pail (how adorable that they call it that!) of udder goodness – pun intended – and thought I’d take you through some of the star products that I really enjoyed and recommend.

MooGoo Milk Wash (500ml, $17.50)

moogoo natural skincare milk wash review

This is a glucose and coconut based cleanser that is suitable for both body and face. I found this one really interesting as it is a combination of 5 different natural cleansers with the rationale being “small amounts of multiple cleansers can have a much lower irritation score”. Also, it was initially formulated as a face cleanser which makes me a lot more comfortable using it on my face (of course, as a beauty lover, I do have a whole heap of preferred and favorite facial cleansers. This milk wash still performs great as a face cleanser and is great for someone like my husband who enjoys the convenience of a multi-use product.) The mild formula is gentle on the skin, conditions wonderfully and prevents drying. Best bonus of all? It is a no tears formula perfect for children.

Ingredients:  Aqua, Decyl Glucoside (Glucose Based Cleanser), Sodium Lauroamphoacetate (Coconut Derived Cleanser), Behentrimonium Methosulfate (Canola Based Detangler), Lauryl Glucoside (Glucose Based Cleanser), Cetearyl Alcohol (Plant Based Emulsifying Wax), Cocamidopropyl Betaine (Coconut Derived Cleanser), Glyceryl Oleate (Skin Conditioner), Coco-Glucoside (Glucose Based Cleanser), Allantoin, Piroctone Olamine, Hydrolysed Milk Protein, Fragrant Oil (Phthlate Free).

MooGoo Skin Milk Udder Cream (120g, $11.90)

This is MooGoo’s original udder cream product and I’m already halfway through the tube since I received it. It’s been lavishly used on my dry (and swollen) legs and feet – thank you, Husband, for the foot massages you bestow upon this sore pregnant woman. Non-greasy, moisturising and full of skin soothing, skin elasticity and repairing ingredients, this udder cream is perfect for both adults, babies, everyone in the family really. I find it really calming and soothing for my dry skin. It spreads and absorbs easily and is even used in some Australian hospitals to moisturise the skin after radiation treatment and chemotherapy.

Ingredients:  Aqua, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice (Aloe Vera), Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Cetearyl Alcohol, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Oil, Tocopherol (Natural Vitamin E), Hydrolysed Milk Protein, Piroctone Olamine, Polysorbate 60 (Food Grade Emulsifier), Allantoin,Coco-Caprylate (Coconut Based Conditioner), Fragrant Oil (Phthalate free), Humulus Lupulus (Hops) Extract.

MooGoo Shea Sorbet (90g, $17.95)

moogoo natural skincare shea sorbet butter balm intense moisturising

Soft and fluffy just like sorbet. Literally. I raved about this in my monthly favourites. Formulated as an intense moisturising butter balm perfect for cracked heels, hands and lips, this is especially effective if your skin has already started cracking. The skin on my fingers tend to get red, sore and cracked during the colder winter months so I know I’ll be lapping this up and making sure it takes its place on my bedside table. Lime essential oil gives it a light fruity citrusy scent which I adore. Rub your fingers through the butter balm and massage it into your skin; it works with your natural skin heat and takes just a little while to melt and soak into the skin. One of the best butter balms I have tried.

MooGoo Fresh Cream Deodorant (60ml, $8.50)

moogoo natural skincare 3 vitamins eye serum deodorant

I started looking for a natural deodorant product at the beginning of this year and settled on a tea tree oil based product which both Husband and I hate. It’s currently sitting unused in the bathroom; we just didn’t like the smell and the formulation. This Aluminium-free MooGoo deodorant comes in a roll-on and uses natural ingredients such as Aussie Lemon Mytrle to control odour-causing bacterial.

Ingredients:  Aqua, Magnesium Hydroxide (Milk Of Magnesia), Xantham Gum (Food Grade Thickener), Backhousia Citriodora Leaf Oil (Aussie Lemon Mytrle), Zea Mays (Corn) Seed Flour, Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Extract, Humulus Lupulus (Hops) Extract.

MooGoo 3 Vitamins Serum (25ml, $24.90)

This eye serum uses Vitamin B5 (moisturise, soothe, regenerate), Vitamin C (prevents signs of aging and helps with pigmentation) and Vitamin E (natural version, not the synthetic version – helps to slow the aging process). The first thing I noticed was the affordable price as compared to most eye serums and I was very curious about how effective it is. I’m pleased to report back that for its price point, this eye serum is pretty impressive. This serum is transparent and can be extremely runny (like an oil – the serum bases are Jojoba oil, Squalene and Olive Oil Decyl Esters) – only a little amount is needed, although you need to take care to control the amount with the pump. It does help to improve the appearance of fine lines and is great for use under make up. I apply a small amount before I start on my make up; it moisturises the skin under my eyes and helps to prevent my concealer from caking. If you’re looking for a great, affordable eye serum, this is it!

Ingredients:  Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Squalene (Olive), Olive Oil Decyl Esters, Abscorbyl Tetraisopalmitate (Oil Soluble Vitamin C), Tocopherol (Natural Vitamin E), Panthenol (Pro Vitamin B5)

Overall, I’ve had a great experience with MooGoo. They are an environmentally friendly company, they choose natural oils from sustainable farms, don’t test on animals and really seem to be very transparent with the ingredients they use. If you visit their website, they even explain how they formulate some of their products. They also have a make up range called Dusty Girls and I’ll be trying out and doing a review on some of the products soon so do keep an eye out x
