#BornCurly Organic Hair Care for Curly Babies & Kids
This post brought to you by As I Am® Naturally.  The content and opinions expressed below are that of Rockin' it Napptural.
I love trying new products. And I'm not above trying out children's hair care products either, especially with my fine hair. I find that a lot of products formulated for children's work well with my hair. I recently discovered that As I Am has a new hair-care line for children and babies with curly hair.
Born Curly is pure, natural and certified organic. Their goal was to create safe, non-toxic ingredients for babies and children with naturally curly hair. They are the only hair products for curly kids (from birth to 10 years old) that are certified organic. They have created pure, simple solutions to caring for curly hair without compromising you or your child's health or well-being.
You can rest assured that their products have been through countless testing phases to ensure that all products including on their label are indeed 100% pure, natural and organic. Why? Because the Born Curly line contains the NSF seal of approval.
This certification means that each product has been rigorously tested by the most respected independent certification organizations in the world today. It is valued by many consumers, manufacturers, retailers, and regulatory agencies worldwide.
#BornCurly Organic Hair Care for Curly Babies & Kids
The Born Curly line currently contains 7 NSF certified organic products:
  • Aloe Shampoo & Wash
  • Avocado Shea CoWash
  • Argan Leave-In Conditioner & Detangler
  • Argan Curl Defining Jelly
  • Rosemary Vanilla Twist Defining Smoothie
  • Nourishing Hair & Body Oil
  • Shea Cocoa Butter Balm

Aloe Shampoo & Wash ($10)
The shampoo has great slip and lathers well. It did a great job cleansing my hair and scalp. My scalp felt refreshed and my strands were clean without feeling stripped. It has a gentle, tear-free formula to help prevent harm to the eyes. The only downside to the shampoo is the smell, it was very off-putting and reminded me of shoe polish. I wish they had used a different scent because I really liked how it worked on my hair. I just couldn't get past the smell and I couldn't rinse it out fast enough.
Pros: Gets hair exceptionally clean, doesn't strip natural oils, pump dispenser for easy use Cons: Smells horrible
Avocado Shea CoWash Cleansing Conditioner ($14) Unlike its counterpart, the Avocado Shea Cowashing conditioner smells divine. It's very similar to warm vanilla sugar and I couldn't get enough of it! The cowash has a no-lather and sulfate-free formulation. It's very delicate in texture and I thoroughly enjoyed using it. It instantly softened my hair and felt great on my scalp. Not only does the cowash cleanse the hair and scalp like a shampoo, but it also adds moisture and hydration to the hair just like a conditioner.
Pros: Cleanses hair and scalp, perfect for fine hair, lightweight formula Cons: None
Argan Leave-In Conditioner and Detangler ($14)
As a leave-in conditioner, it promises to add moisture, shine, and ease manageability of the hair while detangling. It worked great and immediately softened my hair when used after shampooing. I usually detangle my hair in the shower with conditioner. When I used the Argan leave-in, it helped to keep my hair detangled out of the shower and in preparation for styling. I'm sure this would be ideal for detangling babies or small children's curls.
Pros: Great for detangling hair, smells delicious, helps minimize breakage Cons: Could use a tad more slip
Argan Curl Defining Jelly ($14) This has to be my favorite product from the Born Curly line. Their curl defining jelly contains Argan and Buriti oils to help the hair stay hydrated while providing a soft hold for curls. I used the curl defining jelly to do a perm rod set and my curls came out soft, bouncy and defined. This is the perfect styling product for styles that require a soft hold without the hair feeling hard, crunchy, or flaking.
Pros: Provides soft hold, defines curls, lightweight and great for fine hair, non-flaking  Cons: None
Rosemary Vanilla Twist Defining Smoothie ($14)
The twist defining smoothie helps you to achieve highly defined twists and twist-out/braid-out natural hair styles. The styling smoothie is light and creamy to prevent residue buildup and adding unnecessary weight to the hair. I love that the smoothie moisturized my hair leaving my twist-out defined and soft to the touch.
Pros: Defines hair styles, light formula works for fine hair, easy pump dispenser Cons: None.
Nourishing Hair & Body Oil ($12)
The hair and body oil contains several herb and plant oils to help nourish, strengthen and moisturize natural hair. Oils such as Rosemary, Pumpkin seed, coconut, avocado, wheat germ, and Argan oil work together to naturally condition the hair without weighing it down. This is the perfect oil to use for a pre-shampoo or hot oil treatment. It's also safe to use on the skin of babies and small children.
Pros: lightweight oil perfect for fine hair, safe for all ages Cons: None
Shea Cocoa Butter Balm ($14)
The Born Curly Shea Butter balm is a thick balm that helps seal moisture into the hair and skin. It gives dry, rough skin a healthy glowing appearance. Dry, brittle hair will remain hydrated when sealed with this all-natural balm. The consistency is a cross between Shea butter itself and a whipped body butter. It is very emollient and has easy spreadability.
Pros: great for sealing ends, works great on elbows and rough skin, smells wonderful, light enough for fine hair including babies Cons: None
Overall, I really enjoyed using the Born Curly hair care line, the curl defining jelly, twisting smoothie and She butter balm will be used regularly on my hair. I've been a faithful consumer to the As I Am line for the last two years and seeing them emerge with a new line for kids, I knew they wouldn't disappoint. I especially love how light and delicate their products are. They are the perfect styling products for babies, kids and even (dare I say it!) adults.
Born Curly products can be purchased at Sally, Walgreen's, Target, Walmart, RiteAid and many local beauty supply stores. Be sure to visit their website for more information including product descriptions, ingredients, and where to locate products that are sold near you.
