Why Your Cookware Plays A Part In A Healthier You

The journey to a healthy lifestyle typically begins by shopping for sensible food options. More fruits and vegetables and cutting back on junk food as a start. Combined with a more active lifestyle, this typically helps trim waistlines and increase energy in the long run. However, what many people don’t realize is that the cookware used to prepare our meals can also impact our health.

For example, copper cookware was at one point very popular. However, it was actually determined that copper can interact with certain foods, especially acidic foods, and the result would be highly toxic! Non-stick pans also can be bad for you. Cooking at high temperature with non-stick pans can emit poisonous fumes that lead to cancer and birth defects.

Imagine preparing what you feel is a healthy meal and unknowingly making yourself ill with unsuitable cookware. If you’re troubled, then it’s a sign you may want to carefully examine the means of preparing your meals.

Unsafe Cookware Options

As mentioned, copper cookware can interact in a highly dangerous way with certain foods. However, there are other materials that you should avoid cooking with as well. Hard anodized aluminum cookware is typically safe, until scratched. When this type of cookware becomes scratched, the pure aluminum can leak through. This is a concern, since studies have suggested that increased exposure to aluminum as a part of one’s diet may cause or contribute to Alzheimer’s disease. Non-stick versions of this type of cookware may not be much better. In fact, teflon, despite its popularity, is thought to be toxic. One toxicologist stated that it could take the body upwards of twenty years to detoxify teflon from the body. Instead of using cookware that is controversial regarding its effect on one’s health, it may be better or choose cookware that is universally considered safe.

Safest Cookware Alternatives

If you are concerned that you may be using problematic cookware, why not swap for a much safer solution? Ceramic cookware is one of the healthiest possible options for safely preparing meal.

The Xtrema ceramic cookware for example is lead-free and doesn’t include any toxic metals. There are also no issues with chemicals and trace metals. When the product is completely solid ceramic, the possibility of continuous exposure to dangerous elements overtime isn’t a problem.

Though on the expensive side, Xtrema is very durable and usually comes with a long warranty. The versatile nature of the ceramic cookware allows it to be used in the oven, stovetop, broiler, freezer, grill, microwave and it’s dishwasher safe.

Why It’s Important To Know The Difference

It is possible to shrug off this article, ignore the health concerns raised because you feel just fine. Or perhaps you feel that replacing cookware may be too expensive. The truth is that if you are dedicated to improving your overall health, then you simply cannot ignore this type of concern. And if using certain cookware is negatively impacting your health, it may likely cost money anyway. Only instead of paying for cookware, you may be paying for doctors’ visits. Do the necessary research and consider affordable and inarguably safe cookware brands.

Making the switch today can help you avoid unnecessary health concerns tomorrow. Eating smart is just part of the solution. Smart shopping for safe and healthy cookware is often the overlooked method of bringing everything together in terms of a better dietary lifestyle.
