Benefit Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow!

I generally like Benefit’s skincare range and eye make up, but I haven’t tried many of their other make up products simply because the available colours haven’t matched my skin tone very well. Luckily I was given a sample to try out which changed that.

I was originally given a Benefit make up set designed for light/pale skin, and in there was a miniature Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow! bottle, although the foundation (Ivory I’m Pure 4 Sure) was far too dark and yellow for my skin tone so I never used it. I went back to the Benefit counter to ask if they had any lighter shades and fortunately they had Ivory Believe in Me which is a slightly pinker shade which, although still a bit too dark, but matches my skin tone reasonably well.

The foundation is incredibly runny which is good for rubbing it in, but not good for a full coverage. The layer of foundation appears very light and isn’t able to withstand oily skin, or rain, sweat, anything… I’ve found that to get reasonable cover I have to use more than 2 layers which subsequently uses a lot of foundation and begins to look caked on. Plus, as I prefer the matte look I then have to apply powder foundation on top, and a good mattifying lotion beneath to try and make the Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow! stay put for a reasonable amount of time. I believe the foundation has hydrating qualities which is awful for my skin, and probably not so effective once I put powder on top of it. Personally I’d rather get hydration from a moisturiser than a foundation.

If you are after a natural look with quick and subtle coverage, then this will probably be ideal for you. If you’re not worried about a foundation staying in place for more than a few hours, then this could be right up your street. However, I am, so I personally couldn’t and wouldn’t recommend this Benefit foundation, despite the fact it’s oil-free and SPF25… And I certainly couldn’t justify the cost which comes in at £22.50.
