At Clinique we like the packaging of our products to showcase the magic of the formula, whether is the texture, the colour, etc. Its part of the brand equity to have our products be the heroes.
Clinique Pop Lip Colour + Primer hasn’t been an exception, and we have worked with the simplicity of the geometrical form in the design and the color impact, to communicate the pop of color in this product. A packaging that allows consumers to see all shades at once. It is an all metal piece divided by cap and base where the bullet shades match to perfection the barrel.
Q. Did you encounter any challenges?
It was challenging to get the colours right at first on a metal piece but after several trials we were able to match shades to the finish formula. Having matching barrels is key for the color navigation at the counter, we have eye products, foundation products and cheek products that showcase color but we were missing lipsticks.

1. Can you share a bit of background about the development of Clinique Pop Lip Colour + Primer?
Clinique is consistently conducting consumer research to ensure we develop products that fit our clients’ makeup needs. While women like the look of full coverage lipsticks, throughout the day they tend to feel uncomfortable and become self-conscious of how dry and uneven lips can turn out to be. We worked to develop a solution and now women can have it all with just one application. The smoothing benefits in this product help moisturize the lips so that color doesn’t settle in the lip lines and last longer.
Clinique Pop Lip Colour + Primer formula contains a smoothing complex that primes the lips, creating a smooth surface feel that allows color to lay down more uniformly and look richer. This complex is composed of sodium hyaluronate, ceramides, shea butter, and murumuru butter and it actually smoothes lips over time. Our special technology provides smoothing full coverage to your lips that doesn’t bleed or fade away
3. What is so unique about the Clinique Pop Lip Colour + Primer formula?
This lipstick delivers full coverage, yet it’s lightweight and provides immediate and long term moisturization. The blend of peptides and ceramide in the formula forms a barrier so that moisture is maintained and vital lipids are replenished to prevent dryness while the flexi polymers and the micro refined pigments help to keep color vibrantly true all day.
4. Do the Shea and Murumuru Butters in the formula have any specific purpose beyond keeping lips comfortable?
Typically full coverage lipsticks tend to dry lips, the Shea and Murumuru Butters in the formula are for comfort and cushion. They are effective moisturizers that contain rich emollients that help bind moisture to the lips making them feel supple and comfortable.
5. What was the inspiration behind the shades?
We surveyed all the markets from around the world for their best selling lipstick shade. From this, we compiled a lineup of what we think are the best of the best that made a very attractive lineup. Every shade in this lineup is irresistible – you won’t know which one to go to first…
