Hi Kerdisha! Please tell us about yourself including where you are and what you do.

My name is Kerdisha St.Louis hailing from the nature isle of the Caribbean, Dominica. Those who know me well would call me a very friendly, optimistic and independent person. I enjoy spending my time participating in volunteer work as well as keeping up to date on world events (I’m a news junkie lol). I am 21 years old, and I am an Information Assistant for the Government of Dominica (my aspiration someday is to be a Reporter).

How would you describe your hair currently?

My hair is what I would call unique. Now I know everyone says that about their hair but mine really is. It's very regimented so it expects certain thing like me moisturizing my hair twice a week and deep conditioning regularly. I wouldn't say its weak but it is very sensitive. Its really thick as well and tends to knot up really easily.

What made you decide to go on your natural hair journey and how long have you been rockin' your natural tresses?

Going natural was something I decided to do in college. I was all about discovering myself and loving myself for who I am so embracing my natural hair felt right at that time. I have been natural for about three years now. I transitioned for about six months.

How would you describe your hair journey, are there any regrets?

I would consider it an adventure. Learning what my hair likes and dislikes has certainly been an interesting experience lol, but I would not change it for the world.

How did your friends & loved ones respond when you decided to transition?

My mom and sister are already natural so it was no big deal to them, my friends were 100% supportive and my boyfriend was also behind me all the way.

What are some of your most fabulous go-to styles?

I love me some updos. My friends and family call me the #updoqueen. they are just so quick and easy plus they keep my hair stretched, which I love.

What are your most beloved products to use?

How do you feel about being natural in 2015, as opposed to maybe ten years ago?

I feel like the opportunities are endless. Not only is natural hair being accepted more and more, the range of products, techniques and tools to try are a shopaholics dream lol.

Do you have any tips for new naturals or those who may be on the fence about transitioning?

I'd tell those that are transitioning not to give up. There have been many a days when i just felt like throwing in the towel and saying forget it, but i just took a deep breath (said a prayer) and soldiered on. It DOES get easier.

Your best friend calls and wants you to come out tonight, your hair is all over the place and you have an hour to get ready. What do you do with your hair?

I throw that mane up in a quick updo, a high bun or puff!

You're traveling out of the country and TSA confiscates all of your beloved hair products. The only place available to buy products is the local food market. What do you buy to maintain your hair for the next week?
Spring water, coconut oil, and olive oil.

Your employer requests a meeting with you, only to tell you that your hair is inappropriate for the workplace. How do you handle the situation

I would tell my employer that natural hair is part of a person’s identity and that there are ways that you can make it presentable for the work environment.

We'd love to keep up with you, where can we find you on social media?
