A Change + A Little Back Story

By Makemeupmandy @mandywebb28

Hi, it’s me. Still me. Only with a different dress on. But still me.

I hope you like this new look?

If you have followed my wee little blog for a while now, you’d know that I have a very pro-active approach towards things.

See, a few months ago, I was faced with a problem. When I started this blog, it was fun, exciting… it was the escape chute to send me flying gleefully off into my other world. I made friends, I wrote, I confided, I ranted, I blabbered on about beauty – it was all fun and good. Then, it took a nose dive and I lost my blogging mojo for a while. Plus my work online (I work freelance – I write newsletters/reports for companies and write product descriptions/upload content for a baby retail website) meant I was already staring at the computer for hours in a day, creating content. When it came to my blog, I was really struggling to type even more words and everything started to feel methodical. It was very much a concerted effort. Somedays, sadly, it was even a chore.

Time For A Change

I’m not one to let problems lay low. I do whinge like the next person now and again but I really am more of an active problem solver {what’s that gender stereotype about men being problem solvers again?}

If I find my current routine not working, I think of solutions and try a new approach.

If I’m not feeling it with my blog because of an array of causes, I do something about it.

If I lack motivation and get stuck in a rut, I don’t sit around waiting for inspiration to hit me. I go out in search of it. Neither do I see any shame in being upfront and honest about any problems or issues. In fact, I think it takes a lot of humility as well as introspection, both of which aren’t negative things.

So awhile ago, I was faced with letting this blog die off… or doing something about it. And I wasn’t ready to let this little escapade I created fade into non-existence. I deeply wanted to respect this space more, to give it the love and attention it deserves; nurture it, indulge in it and enjoy it. And so, this all has led to where we are now!

I hope you enjoy this new look as much as I do. I think I needed to refresh my mind, my outlook.  A new look and a new approach definitely inspires me.

For a while, I was told you must find a niche for your blog. Beauty, motherhood, pensive life posts – what a mumble jumble, how do they coexist? But they do. They coexist in… me. It was good advice in its own right, but entirely pointless if I felt so restricted to the point that I couldn’t write. Write mere words I could, of course. Write words flowing with life, with emotion, with the essence of me… I couldn’t. I couldn’t have done myself or my readers a bigger disfavour.

I love writing, writing is cathartic for me. I have always loved words and I don’t want to stop crafting stories out of the everyday.

Here, you will still find beauty features {make up is my art, as I will explain in an upcoming post}, personal stories, reflections, musings, inspiration… the things that make me, me. I also want to make this space a priority so you can expect more regular posts {yes, a challenge in the face of my busy schedule but I’m givin’ it my all!} I also have a couple of new features coming up and a fortnightly newsletter with unique content not already here on the blog and newsletter-only giveaways {I will make it worth your while, promise!}.

Let’s throw stereotypes, rigid categories, boxes and all them aside, shall we? It’s never too late to start afresh. Never too late to be who you want to be or go in the direction of where you want to go. I truly believe this and I certainly want to walk my talk.

Cliche as it might sound, here’s to a new start. To writing freely again. To making new friends, new connections. To reconnecting with ones I known since I started blogging. To not fearing change but rather, seeing change as a catalyst for better things. I have to tell you, it actually feels pretty good! As always, thanks for your company here x

PS: I wanted to make a little something in commemoration of a fresh start. I’m not a graphic designer but I did take it upon myself to design and create a printable manifesto {I did take a whole day but I am rather proud of it!}. One of the topics I have been talking about here is something I face daily: multi-tasking and thriving as a busy work-from-home-mum aka mastering the skill of stress busting aka keeping your cool in the face of utter kids/family chaos. Whether you’re a mum or not though, I’m sure it will be of relevance since we all have our stressful moments.

If you’d like to receive/have a little peek at the printable manifesto I made, you can receive it through my email newsletter here!
