Dealing with dandruff can be frustrating and embarrassing. Flaking scalp and dandruff are more common than you think with over 63 million Americans suffering from dandruff. Most people who suffer from dandruff don't know the cause let alone the cure. Sometimes the solution can be found in the problem in how you are caring for your natural hair.

If you can't figure out why you continue to suffer from those embarrassing white flakes on your scalp and clothes, here are 5 reasons why you may be still dealing with dandruff:

1. Lack of Hydration

Glass of water
Drinking plenty of water is key to having healthy, hydrated strands. Anything you put into your body either works with or against your body. Water is something that is beneficial to the overall health of your hair and your body. Spring water is one of the best sources of water and the more alkaline the water the better it is for your body and hair.

2. Shampooing With Water that is Too Hot

Hot water is known to cause dry hair. Shampooing your hair in water that is too hot could cause irritation to the scalp and cause it to become dry. Shampoo your hair in lukewarm water instead and rinse out conditioner with cool water. This technique also helps to control and prevent frizz.

4. Using Products with Harsh Ingredients

Many of the mainstream hair care products contain chemicals and synthetic ingredients. These ingredients can strip your hair of its natural oils and cause it to become dry. Drying alcohols, harsh ingredients such as Propylene glycol and other ingredients should be avoided. Cleanse your hair with a sulfate-free shampoo and follow up with a moisturizing conditioner.

5. Using Drying Gels

Styling gels usually use drying alcohols that can cause lead to dryness quickly. The scalp and hair may start to flake and produce large size dandruff. Use moisturizing gels or styling creams to set your hair styles instead of using gel.
