ZTE Open and Alcatel One Touch Fire – First Smartphones with Firefox OS

Posted on the 08 March 2013 by Anna Peterson

Alcatel and ZTE are the first phones with Firefox OS, the final name of Mozilla’s Boot2Gecko. It is a mobile operating system where everything runs in a browser.

Firefox OS

At the Mobile World Congress 2013 in Barcelona, Mozilla introduced the first two smartphones running the new Firefox OS – ZTE Open and Alcatel One Touch Fire. One Touch Fire  has a 1GHz processor, 256MB of RAM, a 3.5 inch HVGA display and a 3.2 megapixel camera; while ZTE Open also has a 3.5 inch screen (480 x 320 pixels) and has a Cortex A5 processor, 256MB RAM, 512MB ROM and a 3.2 megapixel camera. Specifications are not impressive; however it is obvious that these phones will not cost much, concentrating on the still large group of people who are not in possession of a smartphone yet. Mozilla also announced  Huawei and LG devices with Firefox soon to come.
