Cafe Rouge is one of those stalwart chains of the UK isn’t it? It’s been around as long as I can remember and I’m sure will be here for years to come. I’d not been that recently due to deluge of new openings in the city, so when the opportunity to try out the new seasons menu came along, as well as give you guys the chance to win a meal for two, how could I resist.
Due to the arrival of the little foodie we’ve not done much eating out recently, and when we have it’s been daytime and a little more family friendly than we might go for usually, so I was interested to see how Cafe Rouge stood up to the baby test too!
We popped along on a Thursday mid morning, looking forward to trying out their breakfast menu. The Autumn Edition Menu has recently been launched with lots of tempting new offerings such as the ‘Saumon’ – skin on salmon fillet with buttered spinach, croutons, lemon and beurre noisette, and Egg Meurette – poached egg in a red wine, bacon & sautéed mushroom sauce served with chargrilled sourdough bread
I went for the Smoked Salmon and Crushed Avocado on Sourdough with a Poached Egg. Very much a popular brunch item at them moment this one was done well, a thick piece of toasted bread, ripe soft avocado and the egg perfectly poached.
Lee chose the Buttermilk Pancakes with fresh fruit creme fraiche and toasted granola. The pancakes were light a fluffy which is always a big plus. We both followed our meals with a cheeky Pain Au Chocolat from their pastry offerings. They also do a range of Croques which are always crowd pleasers!
We didn’t have any quibbles about the food, it was all cooked well, seasoned well and tasty. Certainly somewhere I will add to the list of options for a tasty brunch in town.
Baby friendly? We were impressed that without having to ask we were offered a choice of table where we felt most comfortable with our buggy, pointed in the direction of the baby change facilities and also offered warm water should we need to warm a bottle. Several waiting staff coo’d over Imogen too, so all in all a thumbs up to the staff at Cafe Rouge Mailbox!
