Will the 'MacNasties' Come out of the Woodwork?

By Davidduff

The very worst result of the Scottish referendum would be a win for the 'No' side but with only a tiny majority, say, 1% - 5%.  That would immediately produce howls of fury from the 'Yes' side claiming that it was a fix and demanding an immediate re-run.  In fact, the demand for a re-run would continue constantly for years and the thought of all those nasal Jocks going on and on like a band of demented bagpipers will be more than I can stand.  But that might not be the worst.  Thwarted nationalism is a dangerous entity and I fear that a knuckle-dragging element might turn to the methods of their 'Oirish' compatriots.  Even if that does not occur, a tight result for the 'No' side will have the Westminster politicians offering the Jocks every kind of bribe inducement to keep them happy in the future - all at our English expense!

So a definitive result is required, one way or the other.  If they go for independence then the Westminster lot need to have their preparations worked out - yes, yes, I know, fat chance!  But they could start by taking a look at John Redwood's blog in which, in his usual analytical style, he sets out some basic parameters.  Well worth reading!
