I ask because today there are three 'ladies in waiting' for high political office, one Italian, one French and one Brit. You need only look at these photos to contrast and compare:
Marina Berlusconi who is set to take over as prime minister of Italy when the current government crashes and assuming that her old dad remains under house arrest for fiddling his taxes. He will be pulling her strings, of course, in between the bunga-bunga parties!
Marine le Pen, current leader fo the French ultra-Right nationalist party who took over after her old dad left the job. As the current President Hollande digs an even bigger socialist hole for his people to be driven into there are indications that the very attractive Marine may win the next election!
Then there is our very own Theresa May who, according to all reports, is vying with 'Boris the Love Rat' to take over from 'Dim Dave' when the Tory party summons up the courage to tell him to bugger off back to his previous 'job' in public relations. Mind you, he wasn't much good at that, either, so perhaps Jack Barclay will offer him a job flogging second-hand Bentleys in Berkeley Square, they like OEs there, they talk proper, see, not like the rest of us in the 'shrapnel market'!
Well, looks apart, I hesitate to attack Mrs. May because I still cringe with shame at my contempt for 'that woman' when she first appeared on the national scene. Ghastly clothes and, my dear, that voice! It was only when her constant appearances on TV and radio and in the prints forced me to actually take in what she was saying that I realised how brilliant she was. Perhaps Mrs. May is the same but . . . but . . . I remain to be convinced.
