West Juliett, Marrickville

By Takeeatfoodblog
Lately I have been hearing a lot about new cafes popping up in Marrickville and I have a feeling it will soon be the new hot spot for good cafe food! Originally, my friend and I wanted to go to 'The Pig & Pastry' in Lewisham but it isn't open on Tuesday or was just closed that particular Tuesday we wanted to go. So we sat there for a bit thinking of where to go and since Marrickville was right next door the first cafe that came into my head was West Juliett and off we went!

West Juliett is located on
30 Llewellyn St, which is surrounded by residential buildings. There is a lot of street parking which made life easier :P We arrived around 12pm and the place was full of people hiding away from the cold Sydney weather. We were greeted immediately and there were quite a few tables for two so we were able to chose where we wanted to sit. The waiters are extremely polite and very quick- big thumbs up! :)

There are two menus- breakfast and lunch. The breakfast menu ends around 11am, I definitely want to go back to try what they have on their breakfast menu. My friend and I ended up ordering two dishes and sharing-
Breakfast lentils with black pudding and Twelve Hour Pork, Pear Mostardo, Pimenton Aioli and Rocket. The dishes are absolutely HUGE! It is definitely worth the amount you pay. I apologize in advance I forgot to take down the exact name of the dishes and prices but the prices are roughly $10-$20 for a dish.  Picture

Breakfast lentils with black pudding
When the waiter put down this dish in front of me the first thing my friend and I both said was "that is huge!....." It definitely was not just full of rocket, as the picture shows :P In this dish you get 'Black pudding' which is the native British version of blood sausage (type of sausage made by cooking blood or dried blood with a filler until it thick enough to congeal when cooled). I have eaten black pudding before so it was something normal to me but my friend didn't really like it when I explained to her what it was made of (whoops!) It is definitely an acquired taste! p.s. If your friend doesn't know what it is don't tell them :P The eggs were cooked to how I like- nice and gooey in the centre! The only downfall of this dish was that there was too much salt for the seasoning but this was only evident towards the end of the dish. Overall a very hearty and tasty dish! Picture Picture

If you know me well, you would know that I absolutely love pork! So when I saw on the menu the twelve hour cooked pork I knew I had to order it! I have never been given such a thick slice of pork or any meat in a sandwich before! Just look at how generous that is! It was quite difficult to eat, so I had to deconstruct it. The pork was a bit on the dry side but the sauce in it was absolutely delicious and when eaten with the pork it gave a nice balance of flavours and made the pork less dry.

Pink salt chocolate chip cookie | $3.80
I mainly know West Juliett for its famous pink salt chocolate chip cookie, I have seen pictures on it on Instagram (follow me on @vmyc_ for more food pics :P). Even though we already decided to go somewhere else for dessert (Strawberry Fields Patisserie- post up soon!) I didn't want to leave without trying the pink salt chocolate chip cookie. I'm glad I got to try it because the strange combination of salt and chocolate was surprisingly appealing and the salt really lifted up the flavor of the chocolate and cookie dough. This chocolate chip had like 60% chocolate! So all you chocolate and cookie fans this is the cookie for you!

Overall, the dining experience at West Juliett was very pleasant and they ticked all the boxes for me- good service, generous amount of food, tasty dishes, nice decor, standard prices (value for money) and good location! I definitely recommend that you try out West Juliett if you haven't been, I'll definitely be back to try more! :)
