Happy Sunday!
I hope everyone had a great weekend! I suuuuure did! I actually ran my first real race today, but I'll get to that eventually... let me start at Friday night :).
Friday night was my friend Marina's birthday. I had a vacation day all day Friday so I had a nap, but it wasn't as long as I had wanted because I fell asleep with the tv on and it inevitably woke me up. We had friends come over and friends come down from London to come out with us... for whatever reason though I just wasn't in like a SUPER party mode, so I only had 1 drink before going out and drank some more at the club we went to, Tryst. We had our own private room for the party with tons of booths which was nice. I could sit when I wanted and I knew a ton of people so there was always someone to chat with. I don't think I'd go back to that club if it wasn't another private party though, outside of our party room was a bit sketchy, I probably wouldn't feel safe lol. There were lots of fun props everywhere too, check out the pictures!
Me and CB :)
Me and my friend Jenny!
Me and the Jenny I used to work with!! I got to see her again! :)
I tried to sport a pair of glasses the whole time but ended up taking them off! Haha. It was a fun night overall. I'm glad I got to see a lot of people that I don't normally and catch up briefly. Afterwards we went and got Subway, my favorite "post-bar" food! Mmmm, it was so good.
Yesterday morning I actually ended up sleeping until almost noon. It's so weird that I slept that long but I also remember being so tired on Friday night so I must have needed sleep. I wanted to be productive and I felt totally fine because I didn't drink a ton, so I put on my parka (aka my Canada Goose coat... why was it cold enough to wear that coat? I have no idea. Nature is effed lately.) and headed out into the windy city of Toronto to walk downtown to pick up mine and Michelle's race kits for today. I made it just barely without blowing away, and on the way home I wanted to stop and get a salad at Freshii... but the Freshii close to me was closed (Wah waaah) so I opted for Fresh (seriously, they're two different places) instead. Fresh is a vegan restaurant that has TONS of stuff, so I picked the Buddha Bowl and a cup of their Detox Green Juice.
It was so good! Except I couldn't eat all of the Buddha Bowl, it was A LOT of food and it was spicy, I loved it though. I spent the rest of the day studying and meeting with a contractor who's coming to tile our condo, and then last night C and I went to The Keg downtown for dinner! I love date nights like that. I totally overate, had a food baby, came home and crashed. I had the Sirloin Oscar for dinner (a smaller steak with shrimp and scallops on top with a creamy sauce, with garlic mashed and asparagus) and for an appetizer I had mushrooms stuffed with crab and cottage cheese or something. I also ate probably the equivalent of a loaf of bread throughout the night... so there's that....
So then this morning I woke up and got ready to run the much anticipated Toronto Yonge St. 10km race!
I met up with Michelle and Carly at Starbucks before the race started so we could keep warm, and then of course I had to pee so I waited in the freezing cold shade for like 20 minutes to use a lovely port-o-potty... then we headed to our Corral's starting line. We were in the blue corral, and it was starting right when we got there - perfect timing! We snapped a quick photo before we started running...
... aw :). Michelle wanted me to keep pace with her for a while (she's a much faster runner than myself...) but I didn't. I went into this race under prepared for sure. I didn't do much training, so I knew I wasn't going to PB if I tried... so I decided that I wanted to run this race at my own, leisurely pace. My plan was to have a small walk break after every second kilometer mark, so I did just that. To be honest with you, I thought after the first 2 km I was going to do reeeeally well! I felt great, no pain, wasn't hard at all! But then by the 8km mark it got much tougher and I had to take an extra walk break because my hip flexors were getting stiff.
Needless to say, I finished in 1:04:37. It was definitely not my best time, but I felt GREAT when I finished and I'm not sore or anything!! I'm really glad I decided to run it just for fun (I didn't wear a watch, or my GPS, or even look at my phone at all really) and at my own pace and on my own terms. It's kind of liberating! I think that road races shouldn't always be about trying to get a PB, although it's really nice when you do. Sometimes it's fun just hitting the pavement and being around others who feel the same! :).
Me after the race, still being able to walk with no limping - awesome! :)
Carlton snapped a photo of us at the race, after everyone had finished:YAYE US! :)
After the race we did the usual Sunday errands. Picked up grout at Home Depot for our kitchen renovation, bought 1 stool at Urban Barn (I know... why one? I tried to get two but someone else thought we only needed 1. Random), bought napkins and straws and candles at Ikea (lol.. don't ask) and got groceries at Loblaws. I then proceeded to make the Grapefruit Brown Sugar Scrub that I posted on my blog last week! Check it out:
I also got this jar at Ikea...
I can't wait to try it out in the shower later tonight!! I hope it makes me all smooth and good. It's full of brown sugar and Epsom's Salts, so it should be a good exfoliant! I will let you know how I like it! It smells so delicious and so natural. This jar contains two batches of the recipe I posted. I had originally made 1, but it looked empty and pathetic so I made another. However the second batch excluded the Vitamin E oil. I could find JUST vitamin E oil so I bought the capsules that contain the oil. I literally had to pop each little pill with a knife and squeeze out the oil. The first batch took me like 10 minutes, so I wasn't doing that again. Meh.Q: There were a ton of races this weekend, did you participate in any?Q: Was your weekend fun? Tell me about it :)
