Ideas for more effective marketing for wedding planners

Here in the United States, our holiday today, Labor Day, marks the unofficial end of Summer and with it the end of the Summer wedding season.

Whether or not you have been busy planning weddings all Summer, this is a good time to take a look at how you are marketing your business and make some upgrades that will attract more brides. You want to make sure your business has a lot of exposure in advance of “Engagement Season,” which is just a few months away.

Here are 3 marketing methods you may be using now and how you might be able to kick them up a notch to make them work even better for you:

 1) Business cards

You hand these out to potential clients and referral partners but so do a lot of other wedding planners so make yours unique. Put your contact information on the front and offer a checklist or valuable tips on the back. This added information will make your card something brides will want to keep and refer to again. You can even make your card stand out more by making it the size of a postcard.

2) Website and blog

Update your website with testimonials and photos of the couples who weddings you planned this past season.

If you don’t have a website because you think your Facebook Page is enough, set up a site right away! While you do want a Facebook Page, you don’t want to use it in lieu of a real website. You Page does not get search engine ranking and it doesn’t belong to you, it belongs to Facebook, so they can remove your Page or its content at any time.

If you have a blog, make sure you are adding new posts 2 to 3 times a week so the search engines pick you up.

If you don’t have a blog, start one! Blogs give you an opportunity to showcase your expertise and help brides get to know you better.

Check to make sure your sites are mobile friendly and all of your content can be easily viewed no matter what type of device brides are using, iPhone, iPad, Android, or tablet PC.

3) Networking

If you’ve joined networking groups and are not getting the results you’d like despite putting a lot of time and energy into going to meetings, take a second look at the group. If you find that many of their businesses and connections are not a match for you or if you find yourself often being sold their products and services, it’s time to find new places to network.

Give these tips a try. It often takes only small changes to make your marketing more effective.
