This past Saturday I participated in the Toronto Walk for Farm Animals. I raised $300 for Farm Sanctuary. It was a gorgeous day and there was a great turnout.
Vegan kiddies meeting before the walk. There was a table for crafts and face painting for the children (although the adults were getting in on the face painting too).
And the Walk begins! I think the whole thing took an hour and a half. We went along Queen to Spadina, then up to Dundas, through Kensington Market, back down to Dundas and through Trinity-Bellwoods Park. My highlight of the Walk for Farm Animals was a streetcar driver who called out “But what do I eat if I can’t eat chicken?!” and he happily took a Vegan Starter Kit and TVA Veg Directory from a leafleter.
Snacks after the Walk were provided by Hot Beans, Tori’s Bakeshop and Sweets from the Earth. Yum!
Anita, who started the Save Movement with Toronto Pig Save, gave a good talk. I like their love-based approach to activism.
After I got home, after a LONG day, I rewarded myself with a slice of Roasted Pear Cheesecake that I made (using our new Blendtec). The recipe can be found in the latest edition of VegNews Magazine. It’s fantastic.
