Veg Food Fest 2014 ~ Part 1

By Laura @BEBookworm

This past weekend was the 30th Veg Food Fest here in Toronto. Over the course of 3 days, more than 40 000 people came down to the Harbourfront to enjoy vegan food, speakers, music and cooking demos. This is just half of the photos I took. I had such an amazing time. I volunteered at the Veggie Challenge booth and had some great conversations with people. My favorite was 7 year old Samuel, who decided when he was 5 that he wanted to be a vegetarian. He is the only vegetarian in his family. He came to the booth because he wanted his dad to take the Veggie Challenge. Awesome kid and awesome parents too.

Banh Mi
First meal of the Veg Food Fest was the Pulled “Pork” Banh Mi from Grasshopper. Kind of a slow process, when I was trying to get to volunteer check-in, but worth the wait.

Apiecalypse
Apiecalypse Now! Bakery for breakfast! Peach pie and a delicious square. Hit the spot and got me ready to go!

Susie
I love Susie Coston, National Shelter Director of Farm Sanctuary. Her presentation was had you crying then laughing over and over until the end when it was just pure joy, laughter and cuteness.

Veg Food Fest
The place got much more crowded. It was great to see so many people come out. I met vegans and vegetarians from all over Ontario.

Terry Romero
Terry Romero’s cooking demo was really fun. In this photo she is demonstrating that even though blenders have improved over the years, she still feels she has to hold the lid on so it doesn’t all end up on the ceiling.

Buffalo Salad
This is what Terry made for us, from her new cookbook Salad Samurai, which I really want to get now. It’s Backyard Buffalo Ranch Caesar Salad and it was delicious.

Exhibit
I enjoyed the TVA history exhibit that was inside. Neat and informative.

Look for more photos of the rest of the weekend tomorrow!
