CANMAKE 5-Effects Foundation Compact – I got this last year in SG and I’ve hit pan, I was dismayed I didn’t have enough time to buy a refill while I was there again this year, I was too busy meeting friends and what not.  It was just super handy to have a lovely base product I could quickly sponge apply without having to fiddle with a bottle and a cap as is the case with liquid foundation.  Plus this compact foundation has all basic properties of a BB cream in silky cake form.  It has a similar but less thick texture as Shu Uemura Nobara stick foundation.

AESOP Rosehip Seed Lip Cream - Super hydration without gloss or shine.  It’s like a drink for the lips, your pucker pouts will slurp it up like a summer smoothie.

CRABTREE & EVELYN Summer Hill Hand Therapy cream 50g – This is a great hand lotion/cream to have in your bag.  It’s got a light, soapy floral scent and sinks into hands fast and the 50mg tube fits nicely into a purse.

CAUDALIE Eau de Beaute – A lovely French brand brings you a botanical mist that’s an excellent toner mixed with a dash of herbal aromatherapy.  It’s also safe to spray on top make up that needs to be refreshed after a few hours.  Inspired by a formulation used by Queen Isabelle of Hungary.

L’OREAL Dermo Expertise UV Perfect BB Cream – My dermatologist, who is also Mom’s dermatologist highly recommends the L’oreal Dermo Expertise line of sunscreens, I blogged about that line here.  Mom uses UV Perfect SPF 50 as her daily sunscreen underneath her makeup.  I was excited to see they put a BB cream on board that has SPF50.  I’m not certain if they’re simply renaming the existing tinted sunscreens as BB Creams or if the BB Cream will be a separately marketed item altogether.  But this was great for when I didn’t want to put foundation on, I just used this and concealer and I was ready to stroll along Orchard Rd during the day.

Dior Lip Glow Color Reviver Balm – This product isn’t new, in fact I’ve shopped my stash for it because it’s been with me for almost 2 years now.  I ignored it for over a year, then brought it with me on the trip and I used it so often instead of lipstick because it would enhance my natural lip color while hydrating it at the same time.  What I like about it on top of what it really does is the faint peppermint flavor.  I applied this often while standing on train trips to and fro.  So it’s an oldie but a goodie.

Those six items (with a few others) helped me keep my polish on while my mind constantly wondered about what to do, what to get, where to eat, who to meet…etcetera. In fact I’m thinking this post should have had 10 items…but it’s too late for that, lol, didn’t shoot 10.  It was only supposed to be my 5 best cosmetic travel items, but I couldn’t help but squeeze in one more and make it 6.

I was contemplating whether I’d made a mistake in buying the Canon G1X which is an excellent chunky but still travel size camera from the acclaimed Canon G series.  The one catch about it is that it has an annoyingly huge macro proximity.  In other words, it defocuses if you get any nearer than 20 cm which I thought is kind of ridiculous because the Canon G12, the model prior to this, has a macro strength of 1 cm, what the hey, right?  My little mistake is I did check reviews on the G1X, thoroughly as I always do, but not thoroughly enough and saw that the G1X did have macro but I missed out on checking the range distance.  The work-around I’ve found for it is that the G1X’s photo resolution is so high that even if your max macro distance is 20cm you can do a simple photo crop after and it will look like you got extremely close without losing sharpness.  Overall, in spite of the macro catch, I still LOVE my G1X.  I used it to take pictures and film that video at the K-Palette event, full HD at 24FPS which is super awesome and it takes excellent HDR shots and people portraits.  I concluded that one day I would have a DSLR but only when I’d absolutely need it for work very often.  Mall guards in Manila can’t stand the sight of a DSLR professional camera that doesn’t fit in your purse, so it’s good the Canon G1X still fits in my bag, a 600D wouldn’t unless it’s a tote.  When it comes to DSLR cameras, guards can get on your case faster than you can say “blogger”.
