Training Goals

By Geoff Griffiths @mmatraining1980

Training Goals for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

I’m hoping this will make me more structured and motivated with my training.

I’m not too fussed about winning a medal, but it will be good to compete to pressure-test myself and all the Sports Psychology I’ve been reading about over the last 12 months.

Jiu Jitsu Outcome Goals

To compete and win a medal in a grappling competition this year
Deadline – December 31st 2016
Measure – A medal

To improve my judo/wrestling
Deadline – September 30th 2016
Measure – Effectively execute 1 foot sweep technique, 1 new hip throw and 1 new Greco throw in training

To improve my guard
Deadline – September 30th 2016
Measure – To be able to execute guard retention techniques in training

To improve my guard passing
Deadline – September 30th 2016
Measure – To be able to execute 2 ‘sequences’ of guard-passing techniques in training.

Jiu Jitsu Process Goals

To improve my judo/wrestling

Learn 1 new technique (including set-ups) every 2 weeks, and drill it every day.

To improve my guard

Drill guard retention techniques every day
Put myself in guard during training, instead of scrambling to my feet to wrestle

To improve my guard passing

Drill sequence I already know everyday, and learn another one, and drill that too!

Film Training and review after each session, taking notes on where I can improve.
