The five best new smartphones this week in Las Vegas competed for the attention.
The real mobile fireworks is always at the end of February to experience at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, but at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas some interesting smartphones also made their debut this week. Nothing worth attention from LG, Samsung, HTC or Nokia, so the other brands seized their chance.
1. Sony Xperia Z
Will Sony finally come up with a really good high-end device? It has all the chances of it. The Xperia Z has a beautiful full HD 5-inch screen and great specs, including a 13-megapixel camera. It is also waterproof. The Xperia Z will appear in March and it is probably the first full HD 5-inch device that will be available in our country.
2. ZTE Grand S
Chinese ZTE also hits the counterattack with a 5-inch device with full HD screen. The Grand S is only 6.9 mm thick (thinner than the Xperia Z) and has a rapid 1.7 GHz Snapdragon chip and also a 13 megapixel camera. ZTE has had only a few phones released in UK so far, but we wouldn’t matter if this phone came to our region.
3. Alcatel One Touch Ultra Idol
Alcatel is truly popular at CES for claiming the title of the ‘thinnest’ smartphone. One Touch Ultra Idol is only 6.45 mm thick. The device has a 4.7-inch screen, 1.2 GHz dual-core chip and 8 megapixel camera. There are certain compromises in favour of its sleek design. Thus, the storage memory of 8GB is not expandable and it lacks a headphone jack. So many of you who are listening music on your mobile, you can immediately skip this phone.
4. Lenovo Idea Phone K900
PC manufacturer Lenovo has a scoop with the new Idea Phone K900, the first smartphone with dual-core chip from Intel. The chipmaker hopes to get more market share among smartphones in 2013. The device is graphically almost as powerful as the iPhone 5. The K900 has a 5.5 inch full-HD display and a 6.9 mm thin casing of metal and plastic. The K900 will appear in China later this year in April followed by other countries.
5. Huawei Ascend W1
Apart from Android-attack, there is also a new Windows phone, the Ascend W1 of Huawei. It comes with 4-inch screen (480 x 800) and a dual-core 1.2GHz chip, what makes it a budget model. But its standby time is remarkably long: 470 hours. The price of the Ascend W1 will be 229 euros and it is going to be one of the cheapest Windows phones. It will be available for sale in March, in blue or black color.
* Bonus: Huawei Ascend Mate
Is 6 inches too big for a phone call? Have we reached the limit? Actually we probably did, but you can just call the Ascend Mate the giant among smartphones. The term ‘phablet’ covers it better. The Ascend Mate has a 720p screen and 8 megapixel camera. Those are a bit weaker specs than with its smaller brother D2 that comes with 5-inch full HD screen and 13 megapixel camera, stepping into the battle with the numbers 1 and 2 on this list.
