Good evening Beautiful,Well it seems things are back to normal after the long weekend of long weekends. My body feels a ton better, rested, hydrated (my pee is back to its normal clear color J) but for whatever reason, today I just did NOT have an appetite! I don’t know what it was, but it was annoying, I hate having to force myself to eat (to keep the metabolism going of course) and silly me, I forgot my food journal at home so I have no documentation for today. Bummer.I was really excited to get back into the gym today, and I wanted to put myself through a really intense workout, so I opted for a CrossFit WOD today, and I decided on Cindy. Basically Cindy is this:As many rounds as possible in 20 minutes of:
5 pull-ups
10 push-ups
15 squatsSo I adjusted it a little for my abilities and I did:
5 pull-ups with 70lbs of help (so I was pulling 80lbs)
10 push-ups from my knees
15 squatsI managed to get in 14 rounds in 20 minutes and I was sweating like a pig! I don’t think it helped that it was muggy and gross in the gym, but I sucked it up and did it. I probably could have done more had I ate more and actually fueled my body properly. It was fun to try a new WOD today, I like doing them, but most of them have moves in them that I have yet to learn, so I mostly stick to different variations of WODs that include squats, pull-ups, sit-ups, crunches, double unders and running. Oh, and the odd time I make my own WOD if I want to focus on one area, like lower body or something.Speaking of lower body, there’s a part of me that I need help with. No matter what I do to train this muscle, nothing happens. It got developed slightly when I was training for my half-marathon, but not to the extent that I would like. It’s also one of my weaker muscles in my whole body, one of the first to get tired, the first to tighten up and Charlie horse, basically it’s a nightmare to try and train… I know you’re curious as to what it is I’m talking about. Well…. Take a peek below:
My ridiculously small calf muscles. I should be able to grow some decent calf muscles, I’m a 6 foot tall, 150lbs woman, so I’m not “dainty” by any means. Does anyone have any go-to exercises for calves? PLEASE share your secret with me! They look so odd when I’m wearing a dress and flats… my only hope is to wear heels and hope they pop out a little bit. Oy.My diet today was better too, obviously. Nothing is worse that just consuming alcohol all weekend. So that got me thinking…. What can I always have in the house that still gives me all the nutrients I need during the day, but doesn’t require prep, or cooking, or anything in case I come down with the self-induced flu? I remember in college, I bought this supplement called VeggieGreens because I was poor and fresh veggies was out of my budget (I never missed a party however… priorities!) and the man at the Nutrition House explained how 1 scoop has a lot of different vitamins and minerals, and I thought that would be useful for me. The supplement isn’t the tastiest thing in the world, but there is a lot of stuff in there. So today, I made the decision to buy VeggieGreens. Of course, they don’t have them at my grocery store, so I have to find somewhere else to buy them… To be continued on that note. However, I’m going to share a recipe with you that 1. I enjoy a lot, 2. Is 100% paleo, and 3. Is my go-to meal for when I don’t feel like cooking anything. It has a very original name, I call it:Roasted Turkey
Ingredients
5 minced garlic cloves
1 tbsp Italian seasoning
1 tbsp fresh chopped rosemary (I use dried)
1 tbsp fresh chopped basil (I either skip this if I don’t have it, or use something else..)
2 tsp salt
½ cup EVOO
2-3lbs turkey breast
4-6 carrots, unpeeled, cut into chunks (very technical)
1 onion cut into 8 wedges
6 red potatoes, quartered (I use 2 sweet potatoes and a bag of white mini potatoes)
¾ dry white wine (I use organic chicken stock)- Preheat oven to 325 degrees F- Combine garlic, herbs, salt and pepper and olive oil in a small bowl and whisk to combine. Pat mixture over the entire surface of the turkey breast. Place turkey in roasting pan. Pour the white wine over (chicken stock) over the veggies and a little on the turkey.- Bake uncovered (I bake covered) for 2-2.5 hours (this usually only takes my oven like 1-1.5 hours… I don’t know why the recipe says so long) or until the internal temp of the turkey is 170-175 degrees F.- Transfer to serving platter and surround with roasted veggies. Let rest 10 minutes before slicing and serving. I also don’t “serve” this stuff, I just scoop it out of the roasting pan. Classy.Taa daa…. Add that to your cook books because it’s DELICIOUS! Here’s a before and after shot:
As you can see in the top left hand corner of the “after” picture is a nice mark on our oven. I came home from doing groceries and a little elf had left the stove top burner on all day, and I just had to set my groceries directly on top of THAT burner... So there’s that…Work has been absolutely crazy. Not only did we just finish our fiscal year end at work, it’s the 1st of the month which basically means everybody needs/wants something from me. I had to come home AFTER work and start working again for an hour, and I STILL have hours of work to be done. It’s a bit overwhelming. I’m not complaining by any means because the last thing I’d rather be is bored (I hate being bored, it drives me crazy) but it’s just a lot to handle. In my last post I told you about how I’m not a SweatPink Ambassador. So far it’s been really neat meeting people from around the world! Mostly from the US, but still, these girls have so much to offer and so much to learn from just through their life experiences. I love reading their blogs and seeing a little bit of how other people live, or how other people train, or how other people inspire even more people to lead a healthy life. It’s just really neat, and the whole community is so supportive of everything! It’s almost like a sorority… except, on the internet and only about health and fitness. Anyways, I’m still way excited to be a part of this awesome “sisterhood” and can’t wait to meet more people!Do you have any fitness plans for the week? Plans in general? I think I’m going to see Magic Mike with my girlfriends…. I’m not positive, but a movie about Channing Tatum and Matthew McConaughey being strippers might just be the best thing ever.Stay sweet.
