Jasmine Tea Ball
Tibits
Heddon StreetIn January at the same time as needing to ‘tighten our belts’, we may find our actual belts are quite tight after the Christmas feast.
For a reasonably priced, healthy lunch, dinner or to take tea, I really like Tibits, the Swiss-owned vegetarian restaurant on Heddon Street.
I enjoyed a delicious plate of fresh salads, bursting with color and flavours; a welcome antidote to the holiday choc-fest.
Of the all the places to eat on Heddon St., Tibits is the most relaxed, with a take away as well as sit down service. The decor is clean and fresh, with blond wood and bold patterned wallpaper and textiles – a bit hippy-Ikea-ish. In warmer months, being in a car-free cul-de-sac, it is good to sit outside.
You serve yourself from a range of freshly prepared curries, stews, soups, salads and desserts. Price is by weight, so you tend to resist the usual buffet temptation to pile-it-high. The food is imaginative and varied – they work with Hiltl, Zürich Europe’s oldest vegetarian restaurant, founded in 1898.
Tibits also do a good cup of tea.
The tea menu includes hot ginger, Indian chai, gunpowder green, fresh mint, chamomile and English breakfast.
I had a Jasmine tea – a ball which slowly unfolded and looked like a green and pink sea urchin. It was really lovely – light and refreshing.
There are a range of sweets and pastries. I look forward to returning to sample the Chai Tea dessert – with Assam tea, ginger, coriander, cardamom and cinnamon.
I just need to tighten my belt a bit first.
