These Natural Phenomena in Iceland Will Blow Your Mind

Iceland dreaming, anyone? Iceland is one of the world's booming tourist destinations, and a big part of this rapid growth has to do with all the natural wonders that can be seen and experienced in this Northern Atlantic Island country. So if you're looking for a vacation that will offer up some great exploration and activities through the natural world, spending some time in Iceland might be exactly what you're looking for! And they guarantee to blow the mind of the even those well-travelled globetrotters. Here, check out a few of our favourite natural phenomena to experience in Iceland.

Hverir hot springs

This geothermal area is one of the country's many beautiful natural phenomena, and Hverir alone includes hot springs, mud pools, and solfataras.

Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon

Considered the most picturesque destination in southern Iceland, the Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon is an outlet glacier of Vatnajokull, and visitors can take boat trips amongst its many icebergs and enjoy interacting with the local marine life.

Þingvellir

Known in English as Thingvellir, this national park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is the grounds where many of Iceland's major historic events took place, including Icelandic Parliament, which was founded in 930 and lasted until 1798.

Gullfoss

Located along the glacial river of Hvita, Gullfoss is a two-tiered waterfall that cascades for over 2 km, and the clean and clear water appears to take on a golden glow on sunny days.

The Blue Lagoon

Due to its high level of silica, minerals, and algae, the Blue Lagoon's geothermal seawater produces one of the most vivid shades of blue you will ever see. The area is also known to possess mythical healing powers.

The Highlands

Iceland's Highlands are located in the uninhabited interior of the island and feature a wide array of topography, from mountains to desolate plains, and verdant valleys. This area is a favourite amongst those looking to embark on some trekking and camping trips.

Volcanoes

At the heart of many of Iceland's natural wonders lie its volcanoes, which have received a fair share of notoriety over recent years for disrupting flights during eruptions. They are, however, also beautiful natural sites to see from a distance and explore up-close.
While Iceland may be a small country with a population just over 300,00, its volcanoes, natural springs, waterfalls, and views of the Northern Lights make it a great destination for anyone with a sense of adventure.
