Hey There,
As I was saying in my ‘Picking Up A Book Again’ post, I managed to get my hands on the book Ben was reading on holiday. Being a huge Game of Thrones fan and being slightly obsessed with the books, I thought he would pick up a book of a similar genre for holiday, but he actually picked up a book from the airport which I can only describe as a comedy, (To be honest I do not have a clue what genre this book falls under, some of it baffles me).
Now I think we have all watched or at least heard of Karl Pilkington the Idiot Abroad. I for one, (Like many others), find him hilarious, I don’t take him too seriously, or agree with everything that he says, and I actually sometimes find myself wondering if he is really like that or whether it is a character role, (You know, slightly played up to create better television). Anyway Ben picked up one of his books, ‘The Moaning of Life’ which Heat described as ‘Brilliantly funny…supremely satisfying…hilarious’, and the Mail on Sunday said ‘A hero for our times’.
And to be honest, I was laughing out loud A LOT. Before I read it, Ben often read out lines to me which he found hilarious, so of course this got me interested. Karl’s comments and some of his outlooks in life absolutely make no sense to me but also crack me up, what I did find interesting is his love for animals, and the simple things in life, which to be honest sometimes I think we over look, (I know I can get a bit too materialistic, and you know what I agree with Karl, sometimes you can’t beat a cuppa tea and a twix). I would most definitely recommend this book, especially if you are a fan of the TV show, it is easy to read, funny, puts you in a good mood, and you can learn a few things about some cultures and lifestyles of those people he visits. It is one that you definitely can’t take too seriously, I mean he gets plastic surgery, models for a life drawing class and helps deliver a baby in Bali, (How random can it get?).
I have got to say that I am extremely jealous of the opportunities he has had, and the things he has seen. I would love to be able to travel the world like he has, but for now I’ll just enjoy reading about it.
Are you a fan of Karl Pilkington? Read any of his books, or would like to?
Remember any books you would recommend that I try please leave a comment below.
Lots of Love,
