Spring is just around the corner and even though it seemed as though London was getting warmer a little bit of a cold snap is upon us again. I’m heading to cooler temperatures soon and can’t contain my excitement. My heart is still in Malta but my head is preparing for my impending trip to Iceland on Thursday.
I’m sure when I’m gone the temp will rise again and London will feel like spring, sod’s law. London is usually high on many traveler’s list. I understand many don’t like London but I can’t understand why. It is such a fantastic city for visitors. When temperatures get warmer milder the tourists will flood back (who are we kidding, they are ALWAYS here) and the city will be saturated. If you are visiting soon or thinking of visiting then below is a collection of things to do some a bit hidden and some in plain view in and around London where you can go and will still have some room to breathe.
Strawberry Hill House
Located in Twickenham just outside of London Strawberry Hill House is a wonderfully whimsical example of Gothic Revival.
Walk Regents Canal – Little Venice to Camden
When I took this route in May I left a saturated little Venice to find a quiet path along the canal to Camden.
Holland Park
For some reason I never find many people in Holland Park. Maybe because the surrounding houses are massive and they have gardens. Don’t forget the Kyoto Garden where you can spot peacocks.
Thames Flood Barrier
With climate change affecting us all more and more these days a flood barrier seems like a good idea. This one is pretty cool looking and if you want to you can get up close and personal.
Tate Britain
If you want to experience a museum and its artwork in a quiet thoughtful atmosphere look no further than Tate Britain. It had a multi- million pound makeover not long ago.
With the exception of Strawberry HIll House everything I’ve listed is completely free. Go forth and find peace in your travels to London.
