The Holidays

By Advsinwtloss @advsinwtloss
So, "the holidays" are upon us. Time for wrapping gifts, decorating the house, singing carols, and in my case, eating. I usually look forward to Christmas because of the food (among other things). I almost always gain weight over the holidays. This of course is my first year on Weight Watchers so I don't know how it will go. However, I don't plan on gaining weight. I came close to blowing it the week of Halloween, I had no idea candy had so many points, and it was the same week as my birthday (Had cake for two days!). I almost blew it on Thanksgiving because I didn't realize the pecan encrusted salmon I had was 21 points a serving. If I falter I'll be ok. However, I do not plan on faltering. I plan to stick to plan. I will not willingly go over points.
I read a ridiculous blog entry that said that people on Weight Watchers can go off plan at Christmas time. Seriously?!? You actually expect me to give up what I've worked so hard for? I DON'T THINK SO! It might just be a recipe for completely blowing the plan. I don't want to go back to my old habits. I never want to see the 300's again! I'm barely 6 pounds into the 200's. I'm not giving that up! I want to hit my 50/100 mark by New Year's Eve! Preferably when I'm celebrating Christmas with my family.
After what happened to me at Halloween I'm afraid. Christmas is such a big time for eating. The cookies, the candy, etc. I usually go crazy at Christmas with food. It's not going be easy. I usually eat whatever I want whenever I want, within reason. I have 43 points a  day and my 49 extra points. However, I may have to say no to somethings but hey, better than gaining weight.
I don't go to alot of holiday parties. My friends aren't the holiday party type. However there are the office parties that you can't get away from. I got an email at work that told about the office Holiday Luncheon. I was bummed that all of the food listed on the menu seemed high in points. I need to print out that email and do some research but as far as I can see only the salad will be something I can have.  Yes, I have extra points, and I'll have to use them.
Of course the holidays are not all about food. The most important thing about the holidays is being with your family. I'm really looking to celebrating my Granddaughter's first Christmas! As much as I hate Christmas shopping I sure love giving gifts. I guess you could say I gave myself , and my loved ones, a great present by losing weight. I figure I'll be on the WW losing plan for at least another year or two.  Who knows, maybe three! All I know is I'll be around for more Christmases than if I had continued on with my self destructive relationship with food. Regardless of my weight and food and all the trimmings that come with "the holidays". I hope everyone has a great holiday, or as I like to say "Happy whatever you celebrate".
